My favorite places 😭. They’ll rebuild because they always do, but it will be ruff and a mess for awhile.
Not gonna try and sugarcoat this, but imo we are seeing the worst case scenario in my book with #Isaias as our jet has actually aided strengthening along with it going over a very warm eddy in the gulf. Models are also trending noticeably stronger at and before landfall. Also it is clear on satellite that we are not done strengthening yet as more and more VHT’s continue to develop and wrap around the core. Recon supports this. With this storm being a bit stronger, the storm surge threat is going to be even more dangerous and our tornado threat could actually be a little higher as more drier air will be able to be pumped into the warm sector. Unfortunately it is looking like this is going to be quite catastrophic in some areas.

This -all this. Students can’t use tools if they lack basic comprehension or even knowledge.
At a low enough level of literacy, infinite information does not really matter. This is especially true as AI proliferates. For example, I recently got in a dispute with a man who has a 5th-grade education at best. He immediately opened ChatGPT -- and miraculously, it always told him that he was right! Except there was one small problem. Sometimes he'd plug some outrageous fringe view into the machine, and it'd tell him that "some people believe" that view, but that the view has not been substantiated by historical or scientific fact. Because his reading skills are not especially good, he took that to mean that his position was plainly "true." It seemed to me that he'd only accept that his views were wrong if ChatGPT came and straight-out said that they were wrong -- and that if the phrase "this is wrong / untrue / false" didn't appear in the AI's answer, then it was obviously true. He did this about everything, and so behaved like a know-it-all -- yet he was actually wrong about literally everything he was arguing. For infinite information to matter, you have to know how to read critically. For AI to be useful, you have to prompt it properly, which means having basic writing skills. And if you don't have the basics down, it's all worse than worthless -- stuff like ChatGPT will just enable you to be self-righteously incorrect, forever. VERY bad that the death of literacy coincides perfectly with the emergence of AI....

Have said this for years. Kids need to play actual physical (board) games. Sports don’t hurt either.
Board games improve memory, planning, and self-control in children. A 2023 randomised trial in Trends in Neuroscience and Education gave children board games twice a week for 12 weeks and found measurable improvements in executive function, the set of mental skills that let a child focus, remember instructions, and resist impulses. The study tested children in rural schools who had limited access to technology and found that board games produced the same kind of cognitive training effect that expensive computer programmes claim to deliver. The children who played board games improved their working memory, their ability to switch between tasks, and their self-regulation, all compared to a control group that followed the standard curriculum. Executive function is the single best predictor of academic success in children, better than IQ and better than socioeconomic background. A child who can hold a plan in their head, ignore distractions, and wait their turn has a cognitive advantage that shows up in grades, test scores, and long-term outcomes. Board games train all three of these skills in a single sitting, because every turn requires remembering the rules, watching what the other player does, and waiting. The games used in the study were simple and cheap, the kind you can find in any shop. The mechanism is not about the game itself but about the mental demands the game places on the child: hold a strategy, update it based on new information, and suppress the urge to act impulsively. These are the same skills that a child uses to sit still in a classroom, and the board game teaches them in a context where the child wants to learn. A cardboard box and a set of rules. The research says it trains the same cognitive skills that tech companies charge hundreds of dollars to target with apps. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3804…

I did not know this. 🙁
In April 2009, dozens of cedar waxwings were found dead in a single yard in Thomas County, Georgia. Their stomachs were packed with one thing: small, red berries. The birds had hemorrhaged into their lungs, tracheas, hearts and brains. It was cyanide poisoning. A decade later the curator of the UNC Chapel Hill Herbarium found dead waxwings on campus, in sight of a large nandina planting. That's what finally prompted somebody to test the berries. Nandina, sold as heavenly bamboo, is from China and Japan, it's invasive across the Southeast, and it's still sold at garden centers. Most birds can detoxify small amounts of cyanide. Eat one or two nandina berries and you'll be sick for a day. Cedar waxwings don't eat one or two. They gorge on them. A flock strips a bush in minutes. And the ripe berries release cyanide slowly as they digest. There's no warning, no bad taste, nothing that says stop. By the time it's hitting, the bird has a crop full of them. Worse, nandina berries hang on all winter, when almost nothing else is fruiting. It's most attractive exactly when the birds have the fewest options. If you have one, cut the berry clusters off before they ripen. That solves the problem this year. Then dig it out. Get under the root crown and pry it up, or it comes back. Alternatively, a cut stump with a dab of herbicide will usually kill it for good. Replace it with winterberry holly, American holly, or eastern red cedar. Red berries all winter, and waxwings are supposed to eat those.

😱 - This is not ok @ALDOT
This is a photo from Matt Smith at Matt's Towing. Victim was uninjured. Crash was in Attalla, Alabama on 9/4/2026. Be like Matt and if you work a guardrail crash like this please reach out and let me know. The bad guys don't want the world to know how common this problem is.

Mr Fenn is BEGGING @alabamapower to use an alternate route, (which he shows clearly on a map in this video) instead of destroying the land he's worked his entire life to own. He's asking Alabamians to show up Wednesday and support him at the courthouse. Please watch & repost👇

The world is really beautiful sometimes.
I just want you to remember. That we live in a world where octopuses dream, otters have a favorite shell that they carry with them all their lives, cows have best friends, and bees have different "dialects" of dance depending on the region. Cats purr at a frequency that accelerates bone healing, the forest grows flowers first after a fire, and dolphins give each other names and respond to them. Penguins make proposals by giving each other the most beautiful pebble

This will be a huge regret one day.
As has been uncovered and documented by residents out there, including Barbie Starowitz, the solar corporations are removing the topsoil, transporting it offsite to waste management facilities and striking up deals with local businesses. This is land that has been used to grow food for a century. Genesee County has (or had) the most amount of productive farmland in the entire state. The lie that the land will be "farmable again" is one that's being pushed by foreign corporations to trick landowners into leasing. The company will then bring in a mixture of clay and crushed rock to take the place of the prime topsoil.

This is crazy.
You read that right. There are NO background checks for Congressional staff. H.Res 500 would require background checks and full disclosure of dual citizenship and employment of foreign nations for staff. No surprise to anyone that we are being fought every step of the way. You can help us make sure all Capitol Hill staff get background checks by calling your Rep!

Nothing to see here just destroying our resources.
You are looking at @USDA prime topsoil being stripped off farmland that’s hosting Excelsior Solar. The solar salesmen told everyone in the area the land would be “farmable again.” They are stripping prime topsoil that’s grown food for nearly 100 years in the area, loading it up, and taking it off the property. This video was captured by Barbie Starowitz. They are then bringing in low quality soil, clay, and crushed rock to take its place. Where is the prime topsoil going? The drivers do their best to hide that from the landowners in Byron. The resources, like topsoil, are extracted during late or early hours, sometimes behind fencing so landowners that leased can’t measure the resources they are losing (and not being paid for - more posts on that). One investigation uncovered the soil goes to a local dump, as part of an arrangement with incoming hazardous waste that the landfills will have to accept. For legal purposes, this investigation uncovered that allegedly. USDA prime topsoil takes 100 to 500 years to form. But it only takes an afternoon for it to be loaded into trucks, carted off as part of the biggest scam ever peddled on the American public. ORES doesn’t monitor the worksites. It’s the Wild West. And it’s all on purpose.
