15 months ago, @fordnation called an election 17 months early. He needed a mandate to deal with Trump! How’s that going? Without the early call, Ontario would be headed to the polls in 6 weeks and none of his secret agenda would in play. No Bill 33 No retroactive FOI changes No Bill 101 No Billy Bishop Airport appropriation No jet purchases No new plans to fill in part of the Toronto waterfront to build a new convention centre No ‘Protect Ontario’ ads that the Auditor General determines are partisan in nature and not public service announcements These are major developments in which the Ontario electorate was not consulted. The Premier acts unilaterally and expects a parade. Premier Ford had an election campaign to share his plans, debate the pros/cons and give voters an opportunity to decide. #onpoli #onted

Ontarians want an option for a new Education Minister! Previous Ministers Thompson, Lecce, Smith nor Dunlop acted as if they invented education. Paul Calandra thinks he’s the second coming of Socrates or Plato.

At some point the media coverage needs to reflect how far out of touch this Minister and @fordnation education policy actually is. The original 4 boards under supervision were put there because of “financial mismanagement”. Bill 101 moved budget responsibilities to the new CEOs! There is absolutely no current justification for supervision. This attack on democracy continues to extend ministry centralization, while eliminating both transparency and accountability. @PaulCalandra and his merry band of patronage appointees have had total control for over 16 months. At what point does this Minister realize that he’s not up to the task? Candidates and voters in these 8 jurisdictions deserve to have the elected trustees sworn in the same day as ALL newly elected trustees. Bill 101 dramatically reduces trustee impact, the CEO’s option to veto trustee decisions and “not confirm” motions or decisions should be alarming. Let the public select their representatives and then allow them carry out their duties.
NEW: The Ford government says trustees in supervised school boards “will not be sworn in” immediately after next week's election. The province is asserting its power to call meetings in eight boards and trustees will only take their oath when the meeting is officially called. No timeline for when that will happen. globalnews.ca/news/12108029/… #onpoli

🚨 BREAKING 🚨 It looks like Ford is planning a major sell-off of schools. Through the TDSB, Toronto taxpayers own 612 properties worth $20 billion. Ford changed the rules so his Minister of Education could sell any school to anyone he wants. Ford's TDSB supervisor met twice as often with the TDSB's property management arm as with parents. #OntEd #onpoli

More than a dozen school councils have filed official complaints about the Toronto District School Board’s provincially appointed supervisor, accusing him of not responding to their recommendations and ignoring his legal duties. thetrillium.ca:443/news/educ…

I think he got the idea from @fordnation His “Protect Ontario” ads are PC propaganda designed to praise the government. Despite the objections from Auditor General Shelley Spence, she found “There tends to be a little bit more government advertising right before an election,” I fondly remember the time when complaints from the Auditor General’s Office were taken seriously and resulted in change.

Advance polls are now open. However, in the 8 Ontario jurisdictions under education supervision, the trustee elections are very much up in the air. @PaulCalandra publicly stated in March that supervision could last as long as a decade, which would be more than 2 complete municipal terms. With no stated end to supervision in sight, there are very real questions as to whether or not the 8 winners in these 8 trustee elections will ever be sworn in or allowed to perform the vastly restricted roles their communities elected them to carry out. These 8 jurisdictions are responsible for almost 40% of Ontario’s students. Candidates, voters and families deserve to have a clear democratic process. Ontario should not have to settle for the @fordnation style of tyranny that has brought restricted freedom of information, restricted media access and now uncertainty that threatens our democratic processes! #onted #onpoli
Early voting officially starts today, Toronto. If you’re made up your mind on who you want as your next city councillor or mayor or don’t have time to vote on October 26, today’s the first advance poll where you can get out and vote. #ToPoli cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/t…

Happy World Teachers’ Day! 🍎 Today is a chance to celebrate the educators who plan, adapt, encourage, reteach, listen, notice, and keep showing up for students every day. So much of teaching happens in moments that never make it onto a lesson plan, but those moments matter just as much. To every teacher making a difference in ways both big and small, thank you. ❤️

This highlights the biggest downside of @PaulCalandra supervision of school boards. The loss of transparency and accountability leads directly to “behind closed door” decisions. The business of publicly funded school boards should be conducted in public, ensuring accountability! The local community celebrated the sale and plan to open a 2nd TCDSB secondary school in Etobicoke Centre. The community deserves updates on the progress and information about when and if their children will be able to utilize this public asset. Ontario children and families deserve better! #onted #onpoli
Join parents and I on Tuesday, Oct 6th, 11am at the Scarlett Heights Parking lot. @CTVToronto will be there looking to hear from you and your concerns surrounding the delay starting the renovations, the absence of meaningful board updates and the frustration at the lack of activity at the site. Basic facts: 2020 $26.4 million grant Oct 2024 TCDSB completes the purchase of the site Nov 2024 architects hired and pre approvals of contractors begins, school opening date Sept 2026. Planning moves forward June 2025 Ministry appointed Supervisor takes over TCDSB and 7 Boards across Ont.. Aug 2026 a new call for Architectural services. No one knows why or what happened to cause the change and the associated waste of two years Oct 2026 no activity at the site Current estimate for completion has skyrocketed from $26.4 million to $48 million Present: No updates or information

Canadian swimming star Summer McIntosh stopped by her former swim club to meet some of the next generation in the sport. About 150 swimmers got their photos and autographs — and a look at McIntosh’s Olympic gold medals from Paris. See it, be it. Dreams sparked.

Now @PaulCalandra wants to stand up for the education system????? He spent the last 18 months trashing Ontario’s education sector, he created a crisis to justify Bills 33 & 101. He’s using taxpayer 💰💰 to undermine education workers. Ontario students & families deserve better! #onted
Ontario’s education minister tells me he makes “no apologies” for spending taxpayer dollars on government ads promoting his education agenda & plans to keep spending on campaigns — even though he doesn’t know how much they’ve cost so far or what they’ll cost in the future. He also says he doesn’t know how much his appointed school supervisors have billed school boards. Estimates recap here:

Trustees have been yelling this for years. Chronically underfunded and stressed school boards across the province. It's become a crisis situation since 2018... This gov does not want functioning public education. Their own $$$ supervisors can't square ⬜ the ⭕. #OntEd
Toronto Life just published a deep dive into what’s happening inside the TDSB under provincial supervision. The Ford government says the problem is overspending. But as Toronto Life reports, “most experts argue that the TDSB actually suffers from chronic underfunding.” And what has provincial supervision delivered? ✂️ Hundreds of administrative, teaching and support positions cut. 🚫 Cafeterias and outdoor education programs closed. ❌ Dedicated classes for students with special needs eliminated. Toronto Life describes the province’s approach as a “DOGE-style slash and burn.” This is one school board, but the story will sound familiar to teachers, education workers, students, and families across Ontario: fewer staff, fewer supports and fewer resources in schools already being asked to do more with less. Check out the full article at Toronto Life: bit.ly/4hn5cw0 We’ll be sharing more from this important investigation. #OSSTF #OntEd #OnPoli
