This is deeply troubling and illustrates why comprehensive AI regulation is urgently needed. The U.S. is already woefully behind on data privacy and security protections. Now AI is advancing faster than our institutions can respond, while Congress remains nowhere close to establishing a comprehensive regulatory framework. The urgency could not be greater.
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios.
The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios.
Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said.
Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.

Breaking News: President Trump’s new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, was fired after less than a week on the job, according to people familiar with the matter. nyti.ms/4yuECpZ
The enormity of this man’s crime does not relieve the government of its obligation to conduct itself with dignity. If the law requires his death, let the sentence be executed with solemnity. But to summon the public to watch a man die is to make an exhibition of the Republic’s power. America’s greatness rests not merely upon the strength she possesses, but upon the restraint in which she exercises it. Hegseth evidently believes that inviting the world to watch a paraplegic prisoner die will demonstrate American strength. Yet, this spectacle will reveal nothing of American strength and everything of his own vanity.
The Andrew Jackson portrait in Trump’s Oval Office feels especially apt today. Jackson is said to have responded to a court ruling: “John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it!”

Twenty-five years later, I remember that day as clearly as if it were yesterday.
When I walked into my seventh-grade math class, I saw the haunting images of the World Trade Center. As we learned that commercial airplanes had struck the towers, I thought about my father, who was piloting a commercial flight at the time.
That evening, my mother came home from work in tears. She had recently retired from United Airlines, and United Airlines Flight 93 had been one of the routes she regularly flew.
September 11 solidified my resolve to help others and ultimately led me to join the Coast Guard after high school.
Over the years, I have met many people whose lives were forever changed that day; some who narrowly escaped, others who lost loved ones, and brave souls who ran toward the smoke while everyone else was running out.
September 11 changed our country and the world in profound ways. The perpetrators represented pure evil, but their attack also brought out the very best in the American people. Strangers risked their lives for one another, and many in my generation came to understand the meaning and importance of public service at an early age.
Never forget. Always remembering.
Never mind that this is absolutely illegal under multiple independent legal frameworks - it would be the largest single direct cash handout to individuals in American history #FiscalConservatism
Sen. @TomFernandezSC – a lawyer and part owner at the time of suit of Born United MB – insisted its Buc-ee's design was protected parody and predicted Buc-ee's would lose.
Born United has now consented to judgment and $850k in damages.

.@SecScottBessent championed tariffs as a major source of revenue for Trump’s economic agenda. Now Treasury is refunding billions in tariff revenue, the deficit has already surpassed the entire FY2025 deficit with two months still to go, the national debt has grown $3.8 trillion since Trump returned to office, and hit a $40 trillion milestone. Meanwhile, Trump’s signature tax and spending law is projected to add trillions more to future deficits.
Damn fine looking helipad though!
Interesting how tonight’s SCGOP Senate candidates talked a lot about farmers, yet none mentioned that this administration is withholding hundreds of millions of dollars owed to American farmers for Hurricane Helene relief.
They love farmers right up until it is time to pay them.
One day, someone will run on rescuing our government from the incompetent and the self-interested who now dominate it, and restoring it to serving the genuine interests of the American people.
The evidence is clear, vandals have repeatedly caused damage to the Reflecting Pool. Some of these acts were even caught on camera. We also provided the U.S. Attorney's office expert and eyewitness testimony to the damage done by vandals and provided every piece of evidence they asked for in the requested time line detailing each area of damage at the pool.
The Reflecting Pool is part of the Lincoln Memorial and dates back to 1922.
@POTUS cares deeply about protecting our sacred national monuments and his leadership has led the restoration of our Nation's Capital by Making D.C. Safe and Beautiful Again.
Intentional damage done to the Reflecting Pool is no different than defacing any one of our other national monuments.
We won't back down to deranged people who want to destroy, deface, or degrade our monuments.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The DOJ dismissed the case, stating damage to the Reflecting Pool resulted from a botched contractor installation, not vandalism, and that initial evidence was undermined.
