The difference between President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe and many political actors in Zimbabwe is that he does not hesitate to take unpopular, even reckless, decisions to advance his political interests. There are times when he makes strategic retreats like on Friday, simply to let things settle. But once he has cleared the way and decides to pounce, he does not think twice. As some say, he does not make empty threats, as many political actors do. However unpopular, backward or reckless a decision may appear, he takes it, and his entire career has been defined by such moves. If you are fighting him, you must carry the same spirit. You cannot make empty threats, you must be willing to take unpopular decisions, and you must not fear implementing what others may see as reckless if you want to win against him. Short of that, you will end up being a spectator to your demise.
