"Versatility" was a word that followed Cenac throughout Summer League, and here it is again in training camp
Love that he's not putting himself in any one box. Especially with the diversity in the Celts center room, he can learn how many different ways he can impact the game
Chris Cenac Jr. told me the focus of his workouts since Summer League has been on “being versatile” and that “me and Craig been working a lot on shooting.”
Cenac also tells me that he’s been talking to Mitchell Robinson and Neemias Queta a lot lately.
“Just how physical they play, how they run the floor or rebound. I feel like I can learn a lot from those guys.”
Wrote about his commitment to versatility back in July:

New for @TheLeadSM:
Brad Stevens called the Celtics' centers a "position of strength" at Media Day
The unit's turnaround in just one year has been tremendous. I highlighted where "Big Fella University", as Queta dubbed them, will shine in 2026-27 👇

📝 My extended thoughts on Drake and the unfortunate start to the 2026 season.
Drake Maye has been bad this season.
Even as one of his biggest supporters, I can't deny it. He looks like a completely different QB. I wish I had an explanation, but I don't.
We should be able to acknowledge that while also appreciating just how good he was last season, and understanding that you don't go from 100 to 0 overnight.
Last year, as a 23-year-old, he put together some of the most prolific quarterbacking we've ever seen from a sophomore (both statistically and on film). And he wasn't a Shanahan puppet elevated by a friendly system. He was routinely making some of the most difficult throws you can possibly make on a football field. We’re talking about someone who somehow led the league in both completion percentage and yards per attempt while posting the second-highest aDOT.
And don't let anyone use the word "schedule" to discredit that. I watched Drake go 13/14 for 184 yards in the second half and lead a game-winning drive on the road against the defense that allowed the FEWEST passing yards in 2025. I watched him post the second-highest success rate in 49 games against any Jim Schwartz defense that was also allowing the second-fewest passing yards in 2025. I watched him throw for 261 yards and 3 video-game TDs against the defense that allowed the fifth-fewest passing yards in 2025.
So yes, Drake has been outright bad in 2026, and something needs to change. But he's already reached heights at 23 that very few QBs reach in their entire careers. So the next time you say he's "not the guy" or call for Tommy DeVito, take a step back and think about what you're saying.
Drake Maye is the guy. Whether he looks like it next week, next month, or this year, is TBD. But I promise you this: he is the guy. I believe that as much as I ever have.

Paul George made it clear at his introductory press conference that Jayson Tatum is the centerpiece of Boston’s next chapter.
With a clearer hierarchy in place, what could a Tatum-centric Celtics team look like?

I feel Drake's quote about feeling impatient on Wed. tells the story
He went from airing the ball out and hitting explosive plays all of last season to defenses deliberately taking those looks away from him in the payoffs & W1
He'll learn to take what the defense gives him
Drake Maye was better than his final box score numbers suggest. NE averaged +0.13 EPA/play passing with a 52% success rate, even with losing AJ mid-game. But they averaged -0.45 EPA/play rushing with a 22% success rate. The run game consistently killed drives, and forced way too many difficult passing situations, while Maye and the passing offense were the only real source of positive efficiency.
With that being said, his decision-making was dreadful, and if his struggles against elite defenses continue throughout the course of the season then questions should be asked, but I’m not panicking about him long term off one Week 1.
Biggest improvement is timing up the snap count and getting a good jump… it’s so important to put yourself in a good position to not have to rush. And it’s incredibly hard to do in Seattle. Very encouraging night for Will.
I can’t wait to play anyone but the Seahawks so we can see the Patriots throw the ball downfield again
Christian Gonzalez’s tackling doesn’t get enough credit
Dude is a stud in all aspects of the game why did it take them so long to pay him😭
Hate the 3rd down run there just to punt
You’d think with Drew Lock on the other sideline you wouldn’t play so passive before the half

Jaylen Brown’s thank you to Boston:
“When I got to this city I said I’d go to war for this city.”
“I’ve met so many great people here: people that helped me in the community, had motivated me on my journey, people that supported me even when I didn’t support myself at times… I love you.”
