On 11 July 1940, the United States Army issued a challenge to 135 automobile manufacturers: design a four-wheel-drive utility vehicle, deliver a working prototype within 49 days, and provide 70 test units within 75. Only three companies responded: Bantam, Ford and Willys-Overland. Bantam, the smallest of the three, delivered the first prototype 74 days after the Army’s decision. However, it lacked the capacity to meet the Army’s production demands, and its design was shared with both competitors. When Willys later won the standardised order on the strength of its more powerful engine, it too was unable to build the required numbers. It turned over all blueprints, specifications and patents to Ford. The result was the Willys MB, produced concurrently by Willys and Ford, and recognised as one of the most remarkable examples of wartime cooperation between rivals. The origin of the name “Jeep” remains uncertain. One theory traces it to Ford’s “GP” designation, while another attributes it to the cartoon character Eugene the Jeep, known for his extraordinary problem-solving abilities. The vehicle’s influence endures. The Land Rover was conceived with this truck in mind, Japan produced its own counterpart in the Toyota Land Cruiser, and Ford went on to build the M151 Mutt. Some Willys models also served in the Pakistan Army, having been carried over from the British Indian Army, with the M38, M151 and M825 following in later years. Which aspect of this history do you find most remarkable? Comment below. Source: Brig. Fouad Hafeez (retd), “The Willys MB Jeep,” Bugle & Trumpet, Summer 2021.

If liberalism means defending every act in the name of personal freedom, even at the holiest site, then perhaps the liberal brigade must explain where freedom ends and reverence begins. Human dignity and sacred boundaries both matter.

General Yasin Zia: “Their Suffering Is My Motivation. Their Dreams Are My Inspiration.” “Whenever the terrorist Taliban kill or imprison one of my fellow soldiers, my heart breaks, and I feel as though every fiber of my being is engulfed in flames. But what gives me the strength to carry on, what renews my determination and inspires me never to give up, is the thought of Afghanistan’s young schoolgirls, whose dreams have been held captive and who are denied their fundamental right to education and the opportunity to become educated, independent women. Their suffering is my motivation. Their dreams are my inspiration. And their right to a future of freedom, dignity, and opportunity is one of the reasons I refuse to give up.” General Yasin Zia Commander, Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) Editor's Note: Translated excerpt from a private conversation between General Yasin Zia and members of his staff.

Dear Indian friends, You hate Pakistanis because of t3rrorism done in India. I understand. But did you consider that the object of killing of those innocent people was precisely to create hatred and war between India and Pakistan? Don’t let them win.

Another reason I left Islam is because Allah’s perfect religion forced me to drink camel urine as medicine. It was taught as prophetic healing and refusing it was treated like rejecting Islam itself. Imagine a god so great that his best medical advice is animal piss. That's why I left.

On 15 December 1971, Dacca was hours from surrender, and the orders at Eastern Command were to destroy everything, helicopters included. Instead, the commanding officer of No. 4 Army Aviation Squadron got permission from the Commander Eastern Command to fly them out to Burma. Then the planning began. The helicopters were built to carry twenty soldiers, and the extra fuel tanks needed for the crossing took up space the passengers needed. The route had to be flown without radio or lights, past radar and anti-aircraft guns, and the pilots had to decide who would be left behind. At the golf course where the helicopters were parked, families were crowding in, with nowhere else to go. At 0335 hours on 16 December, three MI-8s lifted off into the dark with over 100 women, children and wounded soldiers. What happened over the next two and a half hours is told in the pilots’ own words. In “From Dacca to Akyab,” Major Aamir Cheema reconstructs the escape, from the conference where the order came, to the white-painted helicopters later flown to Bangkok. It is a study of planning, nerve and judgment under pressure, drawn from accounts of the men who flew it. Read the full article in Bugle & Trumpet, Summer 2020, Volume II (link in bio).

He spent his lifetime painting for Pakistan, and almost no one remembers his name. Hal Bevan Petman painted the first Indian soldier ever awarded the Victoria Cross. He painted Quaid-e-Azam. He painted Pakistan's generals, decade after decade, and the war heroes whose faces now ride on the backs of trucks across the country, copied and recopied by hands that never knew his name. The "last of the Raj painters" died in 1980. His work hangs today in the Royal Collection at Sandringham House, with two more on display at the Army Institute of Military History (AIMH). What did it take for a Muslim officer to become an instructor at Staff College Quetta in 1943? For Major General Syed Shahid Hamid, it was not a straightforward rise through the ranks. Commissioned from Sandhurst in 1932, Shahid Hamid joined 3rd Cavalry, an Indianised regiment where British officers continued to resent the presence of Indian officers. After fracturing his arm and spending a year recovering in Vienna, he transferred to the Royal Indian Army Service Corps when opportunities in the cavalry were limited. That decision proved consequential. He went on to command transport units, serve with the Burma Corps during the Japanese advance, and experience the difficult retreat from Burma. After being recommended for the Staff Course, he arrived at Staff College Quetta in 1943. Read “A Muslim Instructor at Staff College Quetta, 1943-45” by Major General Syed Ali Hamid in Bugle & Trumpet, Winter 2020. Read the full story on our website. Link in bio.

Iran–Taliban Alliance: A Strategic Plan to Divide Balochistan? Could Iran's growing cooperation with the Taliban be part of a broader geopolitical strategy extending beyond trade and economic interests? Under this hypothetical scenario, Tehran could allow Taliban-controlled Afghanistan to establish a territorial corridor through Iranian Balochistan to the Arabian Sea, creating a strategic buffer along Iran's southeastern frontier. Such an arrangement could physically separate the Baloch communities of Iran and Pakistan, weakening their cross-border cultural, ethnic, and political connections. It could also allow Tehran to tighten its control over Iranian Balochistan, potentially deepening the political marginalization of its Baloch population. In return, the Taliban would gain direct maritime access through Chabahar Port, strengthening Afghanistan's economy and reducing its dependence on existing trade routes. The Taliban could also assume responsibility for securing the proposed corridor, creating a security buffer serving Tehran's regional interests. The central question is: Could Iran be using economic cooperation with the Taliban to reshape the Baloch region, strengthen its southeastern security, and consolidate control over Iranian Balochistan?

Pitching in Al Mirsad like it has a massive intel network. Hilariously painful to watch such an intellect taking a nose dive. The talk of imposing emergency was already there in Pakistan for last three months or more. Secondly - one of the major reasons is CI of Pakistan. Handlers of Al Mirsad know very well, that through this emergency, which nexus is the actual target. It wasn't their 'intel' - it was their desperation at work.
In hindsight, this is either a massive coincidence or Al Mirsaad's sourcing appears second to none.

Most people who are struggling don't look like it. They look like the employee of the month. The son in the graduation photo. The friend who always replies first. Last year I lost a friend and colleague to suicide. He was the one who'd notice if you were having a bad day. I'm not sure any of us noticed his. Today, on World Mental Health Day, I'm launching Minds at Peace Foundation (@mindsatpeacef), to break that silence before it becomes a crisis. Think of the person in your life who always says they're fine. Message them today. And when they say "fine", ask again. The difference in treatment between hindu and Muslim protesters in India is already so telling, let alone Kashmir, which is a whole different story. This video by itself should have sent shockwaves, but people had the audacity to call Muslims desh drohi on top of everything else.
This needs to be said loud and clear! CJP protestors getting lashed by the Delhi Police and metroes being closed down, don't mean that Indian Hindus are getting the same treatment as Kashmiris.. Only one incident of Kunan Poshpora could tell us a lot what Kashmiris have went through under the Indian colonial occupation..

KGB and Afghanistan All communist leaders of Afghanistan were KGB agents. Very interesting information and comments.
The World Was Going Our Way, by Christopher Andrew and Vasili Mitrokhin This book is based on documents secretly copied and smuggled out of the Soviet Union by Mitrokhin, a senior KGB archivist. The book examines KGB activities across the Third World during the Cold War, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Africa, and South America. Very relevant to the history of Pakistan and Afghanistan. 15/n
