Professional poker player Phil Ivey won $9.6 million at the Borgata. The casino paid him, then sued to get it back. At London’s Crockfords, he won another £7.7 million. They refused to pay.
In the video below, Ivey says his job is to play the game, find a weakness in the casino and use it to win. He calls the casino his opponent and points out that it spends millions of dollars protecting its games.
He wanted a specific brand of cards, a Cantonese-speaking dealer and the same decks reused. The casinos agreed. His playing partner, Cheung Yin Sun, asked the dealer to rotate certain cards, presenting it as a matter of luck.
The cards had tiny differences along their backs. Once high-value cards faced one way and the others faced the opposite way, those differences helped identify what was coming next.
Ivey never marked the cards. The dealer handled them. But the casino didn’t understand what those requests were doing to the odds.
He called it an advantage. The casinos called it cheating. In 2017, the UK Supreme Court ruled against him: persuading the dealer to arrange the cards crossed the line.
The casino had approved his requests while expecting to win. Ivey knew something about its own cards that it didn’t.
Was he cheating, or should a casino know its own game before accepting someone’s money?
lol which regulations would you have the ability to cut in the housing and mortgage industry
The dream of owning your first home is becoming harder to reach for too many South Carolina families.
As Governor, I'll work to cut unnecessary regulations, streamline permitting, and remove barriers that drive up housing costs.
Young families deserve the opportunity to put down roots and build their future right here in South Carolina.

@AnnieAndrewsMD held a press conference today calling on @DarlineGrahamSC (Nordone) to sever her family's alleged business ties to China and recuse herself from any votes involving the superpower.
"Come clean," Andrews said to Nordone.
This race is VERY close btw...

Almost 4 in 10 young people who moved to a new state in 2024 were college kids getting dropped off at a dorm by their parents.
Once you know that, you can almost guess which states are losing the most young people.
New Jersey lost a net 37,556 Gen Z adults and Illinois lost 20,031. For decades, those two have sent more kids away to college than any other states in the country. New Jersey ships out so many that people in higher ed call it the "cuckoo bird state," after the bird that lays its eggs in other birds' nests.
Follow the Illinois kids and you end up in Missouri, which had the second biggest gain of any state at +14K. Illinois sends Mizzou more students than any other state outside Missouri. In fall 2024 alone, 1,215 freshmen from Illinois showed up on campus, and over 4,100 Illinois kids were enrolled there.
South Carolina is doing the same thing, just bigger. Only about half of the University of South Carolina's 7,290 freshmen in fall 2024 were actually from South Carolina. Coastal Carolina has more out-of-state students than in-state ones. New York and New Jersey sent 2,300 freshmen to the state's public colleges in one year, and three out of four applicants to its four biggest schools live somewhere else. USC's president says the parents "vote with their SUVs," talking about all the out-of-state plates on move-in day.
Then there's Charlotte, which sits right on the border.
The number one place North Carolina's Gen Z moved to was South Carolina, about 9,400 people. A lot of them went 30 minutes down I-77 to towns like Fort Mill, which grew 57.7% in five years and is basically a Charlotte suburb. Plenty of them still drive into Charlotte for work every morning, and on paper they moved to another state.
Colleges are about to fight even harder for these kids. The number of American 18-year-olds started shrinking with the class of 2025, and USC's president already told state lawmakers they need to recruit out of state even more aggressively.
Honestly, the most effective economic development office in South Carolina might be the admissions office at USC.
I’ve never understood why they would make a roller coaster like this and not have a safety feature coming down from head to stomach (even if coaster doesn’t go upside down)

Lol where’s the picture of Alan Wilson holding up a Stormy Daniels mask - loved how ole Alan Wilson was in favor of Trump paying off porn stars and not reporting it to the IRS
The mask comes off TONIGHT. 🎭
@Dr_JLJohnson can dress up California politics however he wants — but South Carolinians deserve to know what’s really behind his agenda.
Tonight, @AGAlanWilson takes the debate stage to offer a different vision: common sense, conservative leadership, and South Carolina values.
California Johnson, meet Carolina common sense. 🇺🇸🌴
Tune in tonight.
lol - hope ole Alan explains himself for that 2024 trip to New York backing up Trump outside the courthouse for paying off a porn star
Good luck tonight to our Republican nominee for Governor, @AGAlanWilson, as he takes the stage against Jermaine Johnson!
The choice is ours: a future built on hard work, freedom, and opportunity—or radical socialism, bigger government, and more control.
Don’t forget to tune in tonight! You won’t want to miss it. 🇺🇸
Completely agree with you Eric
