Now that everyone is talking about the impact of AI on labor, here is a quick thread with some key findings from the broader literature.
TLDR; there is some evidence of both, AI enhancing and reducing gaps among low- and high-performers.

The EU AI Act seems designed to allow AI only for routine tasks while hindering its use in high-level problem-solving.
This will endanger European AI startups and significantly damage EU productivity.

Large Language Models can accelerate the pace at which researchers can develop, validate, and extend strategic management theory, from @MTranchero, Cecil-Francis Brenninkmeijer, @_arulm_, and @abhishekn nber.org/papers/w33033
Check this out!! We are careful in drawing the line between what GenAI is good vs not when it comes to generate new social science theory. For us, LLMs are a *complement* to researchers with good theories (not a substitute [yet!]).
Send us your thoughts and comments!!
🚨New research alert! 🚨
Tired of expensive, time-consuming experiments? 😴 We propose a new way to test and extend social science theories with an LLM-based framework: Generative AI-Based Experimentation (GABE) 🤖

So at @AOMConnect 2024, my dear student & co-author @MTranchero won the Newman dissertation award.
This is the highest award a dissertation could get in the academy -- so we at @BerkeleyHaas are delighted!
If you are interested in joining in his footsteps apply to our PhD program!

Can not studying popular genes cost you your career?!
Check out how the probability of a junior scientist to transition to a principal investigator is lower if the genes they research are less studied. The overall decreasing probability is also really depressing! (from Fig. S10)
