ALT We feel it is essential to address recent developments concerning CubeCon and the organizing committee. We want to emphasize transparency and to provide accurate information. We are disheartened by the recent actions of two committee members, whose recent statement has raised concerns within our community, and we aim to clarify the situation. It’s important to note that these two members do not represent the majority of the committee. It saddens us that the actions of a few have painted the rest of us as immoral or callous. In brief, after CubeCon 2023 concluded, an accusation was made regarding a comment made by one of the CubeCon organizers. Every member of the organizing committee agrees that it is important to take such matters extremely seriously. Most of us also believe it is equally crucial to ensure a fair and just resolution process. The organizing committee entrusted two members to investigate the issue and reach a resolution through interviews and statements from multiple

ALT complainant, who did not wish the matter to be made public. This resolution was approved by the majority of the committee. However, after initially agreeing to the terms, two members unexpectedly claimed CubeCon as their own, shutting out their six colleagues. This situation led to weeks of negotiation in an attempt to find a resolution that would maintain CubeCon’s unity and integrity. We would like to believe that these two members genuinely understand themselves to be taking a principled moral stand. Unfortunately, their actions have been characterized by secrecy and unethical behavior, including clandestine interference with the investigation process, private and public defamation of colleagues, and the withholding of group assets. In light of these developments, several CubeCon organizers have decided to part ways with the obstructionists and establish a new organization. CubeCon had no legal organization until this recent post, which declared that the two members had formed an

ALT developed and language that we authored, to license the tournament software that we developed, and so on. Our intention was to part amicably, preserving the legacy and positive impact of CubeCon. At this moment, most of us have resigned ourselves to writing off as a loss the money that we are owed from the group funds, which are controlled by one of the two dissidents. We are concerned, however, that these two have chosen a path that is inimical and injurious to the rest of the group; and, most gallingly, that they have elected to use the privately-shared pain of a staff member as a public cudgel. We are delighted that the two individuals have begun developing their own social media presence. We remain committed to allowing the two of them to use the name CubeCon. We will soon change the user name and display name of our Twitter/X account so that these may be adopted by the new organizers. We want to emphasize our pride in what we have achieved for the community with CubeCon and our
