I know they say never pick up a call from Isaac Chotiner but it was very late at night and I had just survived a pogrom so I figured why not. In the end I thought it was a good conversation about the hell that is the West Bank olive harvest.

Do you know why you know the names of the
Cornell 7?
Because Cornell Daily Sun Editor-in-Chief Sophia Dasser ’28, Associate Editor Sophia Romanov Imber ’28 and Opinion Editors Zara Cheek ’28 and Rayen Zhou '29 conducted on-point reporting and then stood ten-toes down, stared their own university straight in the face, hit “publish” and said,
“Cornell Won’t, We Will.”

For more than two months, I have been working on a truly horrific story about one of the gravest war crimes committed by the United States since Vietnam: The bombing of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran. It was one of the first targets struck in the opening hours of the war on February 28, 2026.
At least 156 people were killed in the U.S. cruise missile strikes—120 of them were children and 26 were teachers. We spoke to survivors, first responders, parents, doctors, teachers, psychologists, and other witnesses. Some of them had never before shared their experiences of that day.
It would be impossible to do justice to what happened in Minab that day with words alone. In more than 25 years in journalism and reporting on war, I do not believe I have reported on a more heinous single crime.

Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.
Replying to @hilbertspaess
The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt. If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible - but I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger.

🚨🇵🇸 “Whether there’s a ceasefire or not, it’s the same. There is no difference.”
Three Palestinians were killed and several others wounded in an Israeli drone strike on Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.
Footage from Drop Site contributor Mohamed Ahmed shows ambulances arriving at Al-Shifa Hospital with the dead and wounded, as relatives mourn.
Mohammed Assaf, whose brother Amir was among those killed, told Drop Site: “Today, young civilians who were sitting outside their homes, safe and minding their own business, were targeted by the Zionist army and their bodies were torn apart.”
“Every hour there is another attack. The strikes and air raids on the Gaza Strip are continuous, whether in areas along the Yellow Line, beyond it, or in the heart of Gaza. Everywhere,” Mohammed said. “There is absolutely no peace of mind in the Gaza Strip.”
At least four other Palestinians were reported killed across Gaza on Tuesday, including three who died from wounds sustained in earlier Israeli strikes and one killed in a strike on Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis.

An American homeowner in the occupied West Bank village of Qusra, south of Nablus, is among residents whose homes have been besieged by Israeli settlers under Israeli army protection for a 12th consecutive day now.
One settler was filmed throwing the Palestinian-American family’s belongings from his balcony while shouting at him: “I am the owner.”
“That child had a genetic issue. It was not being starved by Israel.”
— @VanJones68 with perhaps his most disgusting remark yet.
The baby had a genetic issue AND was being starved by Israel AND the starvation exacerbated the condition. Absolutely sickening from somebody who used to know better.
Super dark stuff here — @VanJones68 again shows how compromised he is by joining Noa Tishby for a full-on pro-Israel propaganda video telling us not to believe our eyes about the genocide in Gaza.

🎥 🕌 Israeli Settlers Torch Two Mosques in the West Bank: Drop Site Report
"A stranger comes and takes over all of our hard work. This land was empty. There was nothing here except stones.”
Israeli settlers set fire to the under-construction Al-Rahma Mosque in Qusra, south of Nablus, before dawn Sunday, one of two Palestinian mosques torched across the northern occupied West Bank overnight, journalist Mohamed Awad, who filmed the footage and interviews for Drop Site, reports.
Mayor of Qusra Abdulazim Wadi said he was alerted at around 2:20 a.m. and arrived to find the mosque burning and three threats painted across its walls: “Revenge for Benayahu,” referring to an Israeli killed days earlier in Tal; “Israel will be established through bloodshed”; and “Mosques do not frighten us.”
The arson was not an isolated attack. Wadi said Qusra has endured years of settler assaults, land confiscation and the uprooting of olive trees. Eight residents have been killed since October 7. In April 2024, more than 200 settlers attacked the town, burning over 47 homes, businesses and agricultural facilities. /1

💢 NEW: “They smashed and burned everything. They beat the women and the children.”
Israeli settlers descended on his village of Tuba in Masafer Yatta at around 10 p.m. Wednesday, Ahmed Ibrahim Jundiya told Drop Site News. They “left nothing untouched.”
Settlers broke his sister-in-law’s arm and his niece’s nose. More than 40 attacked Tuba that night, local officials told Drop Site, burning at least four homes, vandalizing others and leaving five Palestinians requiring medical treatment.
Footage from Drop Site contributor Mohamed Awad shows charred living spaces and belongings, smashed solar panels, and Israeli soldiers stationed on a nearby hill overlooking the community.
“There is nothing left,” Jundiya said. “No furniture, no clothes, no blankets. Nothing.”
Ahmed Omar Jundiya said one family was still inside when settlers set their home ablaze. “What happened didn’t begin with what happened yesterday,” he told us, describing attacks that have intensified since the war on Gaza began.
Ali Issa Awad described settler harassment as “daily," saying, “they destroyed what they could destroy, burned what they could burn, and beat everyone they found.”

🚨 BREAKING: Israel detains Palestinian journalist and Drop Site contributor Mohamed Awad
Israeli forces detained Palestinian journalist and Drop Site contributor Mohamed Awad, 38, from his home in Bitunia, west of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, early Wednesday morning.
Soldiers first raided an apartment in a different neighborhood that Awad's family had moved out of months earlier, breaking down the door only to find it empty, Awda’s wife Eman Awad told Al-Araby.
They then went on foot to the family's current home and pounded on the door until Awad opened it. He was blindfolded, handcuffed behind his back, and forced to walk down five flights of stairs before being taken away in a military jeep in a scene captured on video.
Awad’s reporting for Drop Site has covered escalating violence by Israeli settlers across the West Bank, including the burning of a mosque in Qusra, south of Nablus, and an attack in Masafer Yatta last week that wounded five Palestinians and burned four homes.
With his detention, the number of Palestinian journalists held in Israeli prisons has risen to 40, according to the Palestinian Prisoner's Society.
