Technology and the economy are rapidly changing and America's workforce system is not ready for it. The @BPC_Bipartisan Commission on the American Workforce has been working for more than a year to meet this human capital crisis head-on. This week, we will release the Commission’s report and recommendations - our blueprint for a national strategy to help make people’s lives better and our economy stronger. America needs a national talent strategy. Follow us this week to learn what we can do, working together, to connect Americans to opportunity.
For years, the question was whether Washington could actually agree on permitting reform. Last month, four senators from both parties answered with a strong "yes." Our Energy Program spent 48 hours breaking down the 417-page Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act section-by-section:

Education is back at the top of the national conversation, but the news isn’t good. Are our kids ready for what comes next? @arneduncan and I lay out how Washington and the states must work together to be sure the answer is a resounding yes.

60% of caregivers report child care impacts their ability to work: a challenge for family budgets and the country’s economy. Too many parents are stitching together child care. This week, BPC will be highlighting solutions for this challenge. Follow along at @bpc_bipartisan.
Child care keeps parents working and local economies moving, and Fort Worth is leading the way. Last week I joined @MayorMattie for a conversation hosted by @ChildCareAssoc. Other cities should take notes. More from @startelegram:
The strength of our democracy is not measured by who wins. It is measured by whether Americans trust the process and whether our institutions can do their jobs. That is what @BPC_Bipartisan's Governance work is built around. As we get closer to November 3, learn more about the work we’re doing to ensure our election are safe, secure, and trustworthy: bipartisanpolicy.org/policy-…

Five years ago today, BPC launched the J. Ronald Terwilliger Center for Housing Policy with one goal: a decent, affordable home for every American family. 🏠 Five summits. Landmark legislation. And a lot of work still ahead. We're just getting started. Stay with us.

Five governors. Two parties. One message for Congress.
🤝 @GovCox, @GovernorGordon, @GovWesMoore, @GovofCO, and @GovStitt agree: the permitting system is broken, and Congress has weeks to fix it.

Bond markets are reacting to $40 trillion in debt, and families are feeling it in higher rates on mortgages, auto loans, and business credit. This is not a distant problem; it's showing up in household budgets now. When it comes to our debt problem, we’re speeding toward a cliff and refusing to turn the wheel.
This week, BPC will be highlighting where we are, where we’re headed, and why new approaches like our American Opportunity Project partnership with the @NatlGovsAssoc will be so important to breaking through on solutions. Follow along at @bpc_bipartisan.
New PISA results: American students are going the wrong direction on the skills they need most. Reading down, math flat, critical thinking slipping in the age of AI. We know how to close these gaps. What we lack is a plan and the will to do it. Let's get to work on both!
I was glad to join @ShannonBream this morning to talk about the need for data and accountability as part of @FoxNewsSunday 's State of Education episode.
WATCH : Former Education Secretary @MSpellingsBPC says use tech smartly in schools. "...having this Wild West approach... probably not the smartest approach. Let's get a research agenda, and let's put those tools in the hand of adults who know how to use.
1/A recent thoughtful op-ed from @JohnBoozman on paid family leave is worth a read—really appreciated him highlighting teachers. I talked with my friend @romydrucker from @WaltonFamilyFdn about the importance of paid leave for teachers earlier this year. Links to both below.

School is back in session. Every child, in every ZIP code, deserves a quality school and education that sets them up for lifelong learning and opportunity. That is not a partisan position. It is the floor.
This week @BPC_Bipartisan follows a student's path from early learning to career. Follow along.
You may have seen the news today that the U.S. has reached $40 trillion in debt. This bleak milestone serves as yet another reminder that it’s past time to confront a fundamental mismatch. Our federal programs spend much more than the government takes in, and the biggest-ticket items in the federal budget are all running on autopilot. Federal debt is already raising the cost of living and choking out other spending and investment, threatening our economy and Americans’ long-term prosperity.
Our current fiscal trajectory is plainly unsustainable, and that’s the best-case scenario. AI disruption, a recession, global war, or any number of other events could quickly push us over the edge from a challenge into a full-blown crisis. Even in the rosiest scenarios, we’re speeding toward a cliff and refusing to turn the wheel. Solutions are well within reach, but they start with being willing to say the quiet part out loud.
We can’t confront our fiscal challenges without also accounting for bigger societal trends like an aging population and how AI is changing our economy. That’s why @BPC_Bipartisan recently launched the American Opportunity Project in partnership with the @NatlGovsAssoc. We will leverage practical solutions from governors to develop federal policy options that put America’s fiscal trajectory on a sustainable path while expanding economic opportunity for the next generation. This will be the defining challenge for Congress and presidential administrations over the next several years, and the sooner we act, the more options we have to meet the moment.
With summer winding down and a busy fall ahead, I've been reflecting on how much the teams at @BPC_Bipartisan and @BPCAction got done in 2026. I'm highlighting a few of the big ones this week, and BPC will be sharing more. Follow along, because we all need a reminder that Washington can still get things done when people work together.
⚡ Last month, we shared five Key Considerations for Data Center Development, reflecting input from more than 150 experts and leaders in energy, industry, communities, environment, and development. These considerations serve as a guide for data centers developers and communities to ask the right questions and ensure development happens where there is strong public support.

💲Most recently, we launched the American Opportunity Project with the @NatlGovsAssoc. Together, we'll develop bipartisan policy options to get our national fiscal house in order while increasing opportunity for hard working Americans.
