#Lungcancer can co-opt genes that normally help a fetus develop and evade the mother’s immune system, according to research from Dr. Jung Hun Oh, an associate attending computer scientist in MSK’s Department of Medical Physics, and colleagues. And while these pregnancy-specific glycoproteins (PSGs) can get activated in the cancers of both men and women, female patients had poorer outcomes. A study from researchers at MSK and @WeillCornell offers insight into how cancers evolve when they metastasize. The team — led by MSK's @lucmorrisnyc and Dr. Chaitanya Bandlamudi, and Dr. Kathy Zhou of Weill Cornell Medicine — examined the genomic profiles of more than 3,700 patients across 24 cancer types who had multiple tumor sites biopsied over time. 🚨 New research from MSK and @WeillCornell shows that BCG, the first FDA-approved cancer #immunotherapy, doesn't just act locally in the bladder. It travels to the bone marrow, where it reprograms and amplifies immune stem cells, boosting the body’s ability to fight cancer more broadly. The study, which was published in @Cancer_Cell and co-led by Dr. Michael Glickman, offers insight into how BCG strengthens innate immunity and points to strategies for improving immunotherapy. New results from a phase 1 clinical trial of the messenger RNA (#mRNA)-based therapeutic cancer vaccine autogene cevumeran are now published in the journal @Nature. The experimental approach to treating #pancreaticcancer continues to show potential to stimulate an immune response that may reduce the risk of the disease returning after surgery in some patients.
