We do this fairly regularly. Weโve tried with bunsens and itโs ok if you can heat it gently enough, use a 100ml beaker and/or scale up as it burns otherwise. We go for hot plates wherever we can as itโs easier. We always use powdered potato starch as well

- Classroom phone bans reduced academic inequality: lower-performing students gained most, whilst high achievers showed minimal change.
- Classroom spot checks showed fewer disruptions, more engaged teachers, and fewer off-task behaviours.
- Interestingly, while students felt a slight increase in FOMO, this did not translate into poorer well-being or reduced motivation.
- Students who experienced phone bans in classrooms became significantly more supportive of such policies.

Or indeed on pupils leading learning/less teacher led. Whatโs the point of having a subject qualified teacher if the kids can โdiscoverโ it all themselves ๐.
In my case I have taught secondary classes for a number of years now without a TA as the classes that landed on my TT didnโt warrant one based on needs of pupils elsewhere being higher. The last year I taught with a TA in class was pre Covid

Next week is our Pathways week where we will be working together for a bright future for all our pupils -departments who will help you understand the different courses on offer as pupils begin to consider their next step and over 30 employers and post school partners.
And yet in some areas we canโt get supply for love nor money, let along in a subject you really need for. There are some councils (rural) that are struggling to fill vacancies.
Managed to catch a few remotely yesterday (they were great) and grateful for the option to catch up with recordings. Would never manage to go in person due to distance.
