By "paradox" the author means Sutton (1991): greater competition => greater concentration. Okay. But you don't often hear people argue that the airline industry would be a better place if we brought the Civil Aeronautics Board back... theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…
Journos don't get it, but many academics here seem in denial too: There are no false positives in language-based plagiarism accusations. As long as you don't copy others' text, you will never be accused of such. Scumbag Rufo had an easy win because the examples were so obvious.
Full house yesterday to honor Heikki Rantakari at @SimonSchool, reflecting how much Heikki was loved by his students (MBA micro and game theory). His wife was presented with a signed jersey (see FB post for context) and a piece of art with memorial tributes arranged as game tree.
God I hate these scales. In what world are only top-20% students (esp. in my pool of people) "good" students?
Devastating news today. We've lost a wonderful human and a brilliant mind. democratandchronicle.com/sto…
Our dear friend and colleague Heikki is still missing. Hoping that someone in #Rochester has info that might help find him.

We are seeking the public's help in locating 44-year old Heikki Rantakari. He was last seen on Friday in the 1000 block of Exchange St. We believe that he may be in danger and anyone with information is encouraged to call 911.

I completely missed (and there was little on #EconTwitter ) that Oliver Hart was knighted last month, "for a sustained and exceptional contribution to economic theory." Congratulations Sir Oliver! thecrimson.com/article/2023/…
Well said Paul. So great to run into many friends and acquaintances from different stages of life to celebrate John Sutton. Wonderful tributes by @timobres and @JeanTirole. Thank you @volker_nocke @TomValletti and others for making this happen!
Celebrating the retirement and wonderful contributions of my Ph.D. supervisor Prof John Sutton to the LSE and the field of Industrial Organization. The perfect scholar and gentleman. Thank you John 👏 @STICERD_LSE @LSEnews
Why do students have 10x their normal opportunity cost of time during exams? The same people who worry about points on minor assignments leave a 3hr final exam 1hr early, when they could almost certainly add valuable points by refining their answers.
