Insufferable My new post shows that utilities with an engineer as CEO have fewer Safe Drinking Water Act management violations--and those with MBAs have more. It's not about skills; it's about values. My analysis of CEO background & SDWA compliance. mannyteodoro.com/insufferabl…

Much of what we do isn’t quantified by H-index, i-index, journal impact factor etc. Results of our work have prompted people in governments, industries, and the public have changed their policies to better (or start) protecting public safety and health from certain threats. That’s how we measure value. Did we tangibly help make life better/easier for people with our discoveries? We’ve always driven towards making a positive difference where science and engineering meets safety, human health, and policy. (Too bad theres no numerical “factor” for that!) Most researchers have nothing on Larry Richardson. Racking up more than 130 citations in 4 years, he seemed like a scientific superstar in the making. Except the studies were gibberish—and Larry is a cat. This “exercise in absurdity” is an eye-opening look at byzantine world of scientific rank, and just how easy it is to manipulate. scim.ag/46HmdMu #InternationalCatDay

Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.
