ALT A MetCC Communications Officer took a call from a Medical Practice raising concerns for an elderly couple. Various agencies had tried to contact the couple and attended their address with no reply. The couple who were both elderly with medical issues had no other next of kin. The MetCC operator immediately recognised the potential risk and vulnerabilities involved and arranged for MPS officers to attend for an urgent welfare check. On arrival, the officers forced entry to the address where they found the 80 year old woman lying on the floor next to her deceased husband. It was believed the man had sadly been deceased for 2-3 weeks and the wife was bed bound with very little food and water. The elderly woman who was in a deteriorated state was taken to hospital by the ambulance service. The decisive action taken by the MetCC operator likely assisted in saving a life.
