I am deeply grieved to learn of the passing of Lt. Gen. M.M. Lakhera, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd.), the 11th Governor of Mizoram (July 25, 2006 – September 1, 2011). His departure marks a significant loss for the nation. Throughout his distinguished tenure as Governor, Lt. Gen. Lakhera demonstrated unwavering commitment to the progress and welfare of Mizoram. With profound regard for its people, he discharged his duties with dignity, impartiality, and integrity, and his stewardship of the office shall be long remembered. This afternoon at Lok Bhavan, I was honoured to meet Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram, General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd.). In a most cordial and private setting, we conversed on matters concerning state and national politics. It was truly a privilege.

Greetings on the 91st YMA Day! The Young Mizo Association, with over 500,000 members, is the great (Tlawmngai Pawl) selfless service organization that upholds Mizo identity. It safeguards our culture, traditions, and way of life. It defends Mizoram and the Mizo people, stands guard against threats to our community, and serves others with selfless dedication. We are truly fortunate to have the YMA. It is vital that younger generations of Mizo youth carry forward the YMA’s motto and objectives. Its work for the security of Mizoram and the Mizo people, for the unity of the Zo people, for the integration of all Zohnahthlak, and for the dignity of Mizos as a people must continue. The YMA is the living custodian of Mizo heritage and spirit. To all YMA members in Mizoram and beyond, continue striving for greater progress for the Mizo people. Celebrate YMA Day with joy, always mindful of the true spirit of the YMA.
