If you never watched Buehrle pitch, the thing to understand is the tempo. He got the ball and threw it. Games he started ran under two and a half hours regularly, and hitters hated stepping in against him because he never gave them a second to think. He made fourteen consecutive seasons of two hundred or more innings, which nobody does anymore. He threw a no hitter in 2007 and a perfect game against the Rays in 2009, and he was on the mound for the White Sox team that finally ended their long championship drought in 2005. I still have him on the outside, narrowly. He rarely struck anybody out and he was almost never the best pitcher in his league in a given year. Durability that extreme is a real skill and I wish the voting rewarded it more than it does. Is showing up every fifth day for fifteen years a Hall of Fame skill?
