They don't read because it's hard. Make it easy! Choose books below grade level. LOTS and LOTS of them. Every week. Hundreds of books. Remove distractions like video games, computer screens, and TV.
Parents - how long can your child read without a break? I’ll bet many of you do not know for certain, especially if your child is in secondary school. How about this weekend you find out? Sit with them and each read a book and see how long before your child is distracted. By 6th grade if your child can’t or won’t read for at least 30 minutes, they have a reading problem whether you want to admit that or not.

Thank you, @elonmusk, for investing in the next generation. More than $8 billion has already been deposited into children’s accounts, and this extraordinary donation will push that total even higher.
As @TrumpAccounts continues to grow we look forward to more philanthropists joining the movement and helping children across America jumpstart their financial future.

This fundraiser is just getting started, and sharing helps so much in the early days. Even if you can't donate, a quick share can help it reach more people who may be able to support Kaylub and his family during this difficult time. Please consider sharing to help us surround them with love and support. gofund.me/bbbab6e42

“5-year-old Rhoam Summer, the youngest child killed in a shooting at an Oregon school, was a fast runner and a fearless climber who also loved reading and his stuffed animals, his aunt said Friday.” ❤️
Truly disturbing. Why is society allowing this to happen? If the parents are not providing discipline, then the government needs to step in to provide safety and order. Is that not possible? Where are the cops?
Teach your kids to have BOUNDARIES and then enforce them. Practice.
My 16-year-old daughter works at an ice cream parlor after school.
Last Tuesday at 9:45 PM, she texted me two words: "Red light."
Her 24-year-old shift manager had just informed her that the adult closer called out sick, so she was expected to stay until 1:00 AM on a school night to clean the grease traps and lock up the store alone.
She told him she had an exam at 8 AM. He scoffed and told her: "If you aren't a team player, don't expect hours on next week's schedule."
She froze. Teenagers are conditioned to obey authority figures, even when those figures are taking complete advantage of them.
I walked through the glass front doors at 9:55 PM.
I didn't yell. I walked straight up to the counter, looked the manager in the eye, and said:
"Under state labor law, 16-year-olds cannot work past 10:00 PM on a school night. My daughter is clocking out at ten. If you have an issue with scheduling, give me the franchise owner’s direct number right now."
He stammered, turned red, and told her she could go.
We spend years teaching our kids to be polite, obedient, and respectful to adults.
If you don't teach them where the line is and show them that you will physically show up to hold that line predatory bosses and bad situations will walk all over them before they even finish high school.
