"We have deployed a digital system where we use a decentralized smart waste collection system right at the market, or right at the source. We actually collect and sort the waste at the source, and are able to pay those who give us the waste. We eventually use that waste to produce fertilizers and animal feed.โ

"We saw a problem of poor waste segregation at the source, and so we decided to come up with a solution that could help to sort waste. There's always value in waste, but people don't realize this because they are not sensitized. So what we're trying to do with our solution is put it in areas where it can be used, and also ensure that the people in those communities can see value in their waste."

Turning Climate Commitments into Resilient Development
The Country Representative of @UNDPUganda emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships, climate-responsive investments and resilient infrastructure in advancing Ugandaโs sustainable development agenda.
The discussion highlighted the need to align national climate commitments, including Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), with development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals through coordinated implementation and effective resource mobilization.
Achieving climate resilience requires more than ambitious targets; it demands investments and partnerships that deliver measurable results for communities and businesses.

By strengthening @pearlbank_ugโs capacity to assess climate risks and identify opportunities across its agricultural portfolio, @UNDP is advancing more informed lending decisions and facilitating the mobilization of finance for agricultural transformation.
For Ugandaโs farmers and agribusinesses, stronger risk management can create opportunities to invest, adapt and grow amid increasing climate uncertainty.
Through partnerships that connect data, finance and insurance, @UNDP is advancing a more resilient agricultural sector.

Using coffee as a case study, participants explored the ImpactSF Analyzer and how it assesses potential climate impacts on agricultural productivity over the next 6months - 3years. Discussions also covered maize and livestock value chains.
These insights can enable the financial sector to identify climate-related risks across its agricultural portfolio, determine where targeted support is needed and explore financial solutions that address emerging risks.

When we first conceived #FashionForward at @UNDPUganda, we wanted to do more than teach young people how to make clothes. Our ambition was to turn their creativity into viable businesses, create decent jobs and build sustainable livelihoods.
Through our partnership with @MakUnipod and Papearl Fashion Academy, we equipped emerging designers with skills in sustainable design, fashion technology including computer-aided design (CAD), marketing and entrepreneurship.
