#MLGW and UPA meter readers will conduct meter readings on Saturday, October 24, in the following areas and surrounding neighborhoods:
• Ridgeway Road and Poplar Avenue
• Winchester Road and Mendenhall Road
• Kirby Parkway and Quince Road
• Germantown Road and Poplar Pike
To ensure accurate readings and avoid estimated bills, customers are asked to make sure meter readers have clear access to their meters. If a meter is behind a locked gate, please ensure it is unlocked and secure any pets during this time.
Authorized meter readers will always carry MLGW badges identifying themselves as utility employees.
A flood of people in pink overtook Tom Lee Park Saturday morning. Hundreds, decked out in pink T’s, pink tights, pink hair, etc., showed up for the 2026 American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on October 17.
#MLGW volunteers manned a water station to help refresh walkers. Some participants walked to celebrate a personal victory over breast cancer, others walked to honor a loved one.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the US besides skin cancers. Overall, about 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer. Treatment is most successful when it's caught early. Visit the American Cancer Society’s website, or talk to your family doctor, about what to look out for and when to get tested.
It is not a bad trade-off. Take care of a few chores, and keep home cozy and energy efficient year round.
+Start by replacing any worn weatherstripping around your doors and windows.

It is a windy day, please take this information from the @NWSMemphis seriously. Wind gusts can blow down trees and tree limbs leading to power outages. Please use your MLGW My Account or call 901-544-6500 to report power outages. Call 901-528-4465 to report emergencies like downed powerlines and gas leaks.
We are fortunate enough to live on top of a bountiful, and healthy, aquifer. It provides us with the cleanest water in the country. #MLGW helps keep it that way.
+Our Water Lab tests water samples 40,000 times a year.
+Thanks to low-flow showerheads and commodes, and energy efficient appliances, we are pumping 31.6% LESS water out of the aquifer than we did 25 years ago.
+And, thanks to studies from the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Memphis's Center for Applied Earth Science and Engineering Research (CAESER) Memphis Light, Gas and Water has data that helps guide where we install wells and where we source our drinking water.
Sometimes the best way to show the value of a program is to hear directly from a business that participated. FlagCenter.com LLC participated in the Small Business Lighting Program, helping improve the lighting throughout their business.
Dennis Criscuolo with FlagCenter.com LLC shared: “It helped standardize all of our lighting for a better indoor appearance.”
Small improvements can make a noticeable difference in how a business looks, feels and operates.
Could your business benefit from a lighting upgrade?

#MLGW volunteers helped brighten up the Grace House facilities on Bellevue this week. They painted rooms, hallways and a kitchen. In partnership with the United Way of the Mid-South, MLGW held a "Day of Caring" on Monday, October 13. Grace House is one of the dozens of local agencies the United Way of the Mid-South helps support. Grace House helps women overcome alcohol and drug addiction.

Around a dozen or so MLGW employees spent Friday morning volunteering as a clean up crew at the Girls, Inc. facility on Dellwood Avenue. The beautification project was part of MLGW's "Day of Caring" in coordination with the United Way of the Mid-South. Utility employees raise funds for the United Way through an annual golf tournament and giving campaign. The "Day of Caring" gives employees a chance to contribute to the community through volunteerism.
Each year more than 1,600 girls take part in the Girls Inc. Experience at locations in Memphis and Shelby County. Program staff provide after-school and summer programs along with in-school curriculum in schools across the city. @uwmidsouth @girls_memphis
Autumn is officially here! Is your home's "envelope" sealed? The envelope is made up of a home's outer walls, windows, doors and any other openings to outside. A well-sealed envelope, and the correct amount of insulation can reduce heating and cooling costs by 15% - so you want to make sure that seal is tight!
+Not sure if you have enough insulation? Ask a contractor for help.
+Use insulation to seal gaps in your attic or basement.
+ And use expandable caulk to seal around gaps in plumbing or wiring coming into the home.
It’s #PublicNaturalGasWeek! This week, we’re taking a closer look at where Shelby County’s natural gas comes from and how it makes its way to you.
On Wednesday, we shared information about where Memphis gets its natural gas from and how it gets here...but what happens after natural gas reaches an #MLGW gate station?
At the gate station, natural gas is measured, its pressure is adjusted and odorant is added before it enters MLGW’s distribution system. From there, it travels through underground gas mains beneath streets and neighborhoods across Shelby County.
A smaller service line then branches from the main and carries natural gas to an individual home or business, where it passes through a meter that records how much is used. After the meter, customer piping carries the gas to appliances and equipment inside the property.
Let's use Graceland as a visual example.
#MLGW has nearly 65 crews ready to complete damage assessments and make repairs and restore power to all customers safely and as quickly as possible. We can ask for help from additional contractors if necessary. We have a full complement of tree trimming crews available to clear debris. Working in challenging conditions on complex tasks, crews will continue efforts around-the-clock to restore power to customers, some of whom may experience extended outages.
Despite significant progress in our tree trimming and outdated infrastructure replacement, gusty winds above 45 mph combined with heavy rains can saturate the ground and set us up for outages caused by falling trees.
While we will do all we can to prepare and respond to any impacts, we ask our customers to take the time now to be prepared later:
· Secure items outside that can blow around.
· Store enough nonperishable food, water and medicine to last up to three days.
Let’s work together to keep our families and community safe during what has the potential to be a damaging storm.
