Katie Zacharia and Mao Ning – a study in contrasts in US, China media strategies. Trump’s press secretary and China's foreign ministry spokeswoman serve as the public faces of their countries @ML7077 scmp.com/news/china/diplomac… Katie Zacharia may have lasted just five days as the White House press secretary but still managed to set off a diplomatic incident with China. In an interview with a conservative commentator on Thursday, Zacharia referred to China as a place that “doesn’t even have proper toilets”. Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning responded a day later with a smile and a brief, pointed invitation. “We welcome her to visit China more often when she has the opportunity,” said Mao, a veteran diplomat. Like Mao, Zacharia was – if only for less than a week – the highly visible public face of her government, speaking on issues that could shape how her country was perceived. But Mao and Zacharia are the products of vastly different systems and took contrasting paths to the podium, using very different ways to tell two very different stories. Zacharia’s debut – and final – official White House briefing lasted fewer than 15 minutes on Tuesday, with much of her presentation delivered from a prepared script. By then, questions had surfaced about her legal credentials after she had presented herself as a lawyer in media appearances. According to her LinkedIn profile, Zacharia worked as an associate at Zhong Lun Law Firm, one of China’s biggest, in Beijing from 2011 to 2013. Before joining the White House, she was a frequent commentator on conservative networks Fox News and Newsmax, where she defended US President Donald Trump and his agenda. She had also briefly held a communications role at the Department of Homeland Security. Asked about her legal credentials, she said she had received them “when I moved to China”, before later saying she had misheard the question. By the weekend, she was no longer in the White House job. In China’s foreign ministry spokesperson system, officials generally have extensive diplomatic experience and undergo substantial preparation before taking on the position. Another difference is in the scope of their roles. A foreign ministry spokesperson is among the Chinese government’s most prominent and regular public-facing representatives, communicating Beijing’s positions on diplomacy and international affairs. By contrast, the White House press secretary’s responsibilities extend beyond explaining domestic and foreign policy. As a presidential appointee, the spokesperson is also expected to defend the president’s agenda and respond to political criticism on their behalf. Zacharia was appointed to the role just three weeks before the midterm elections, at a politically sensitive time with Trump’s approval ratings at near-record lows. Her debut briefing on October 13 combined praise for Trump and his “America first” agenda, taking questions from just three reporters before wrapping up. Her predecessor, Karoline Leavitt, had also used her first briefing to frame a major development involving China through the lens of US domestic politics. China’s foreign ministry formally established its spokesperson system in March 1983, during the country’s reform and opening-up drive. A year earlier, Qian Qichen had held what is regarded as the ministry’s first press conference. He later rose through the diplomatic ranks to become foreign minister and vice-premier. The ministry’s spokespersons are career diplomats who typically gather years of experience in foreign affairs before taking on the high-profile role. Mao became the ministry’s 33rd spokesperson in September 2022 and was appointed director general of its information department in January 2025. Before taking on the chief spokesperson role, Mao had spent more than 27 years in diplomatic service, focusing mainly on Asian affairs. She had also briefly served in a local government position as deputy mayor in 2020.

This thing at Moscow State University is blowing up in China and I think people on X should know about this too. So basically a Chinese international student in Moscow State University named Chen Yuxin, a third-year history major, reportedly wore the Rising Sun Flag in an Asian-African history class on Oct 14. He also put an old Imperial Japanese Army cap on his desk. When Chinese classmates confronted him, he refused to stop and reportedly cursed them in Japanese. Oh shockingly , he is from Nanjing. Oct 15 the video spreads in China. Massive backlash. He posts an apology but wears sunglasses and a mask the whole time. Says he was “showing historical knowledge” and “trying to impress the teacher.” Nobody buys it. Oct 17 he posts a second apology, face visible, bowing. Chinese people still reject it because people think “he’s not sorry, he’s just scared of the consequences”. Later more of his past words and behavior get exposed, turns out he’s a imperial Japanese army fan and this wasn’t a one-time mistake. Oct 18 Chinese students in the history department circulate a joint petition with signatures and fingerprints. They formally submit it to the department. They refuse to accept his apology and demand a full investigation and severe punishment for displaying militarist symbols violates Russian law, damages academic ethics, harms the university’s reputation. There are rumors that deportation proceedings have started but the university has not officially confirmed that. So why he does that? I need to introduce the Chinese term for this group is “精日” (jīngrì) first. It does not mean”Japan lover” “likes Japanese anime, sushi, technology, or pop culture.” 精日 means a Chinese person who spiritually identifies with Imperial Japan and the Japanese right wing, worships Japan while despising the Chinese nation, and whitewashes Japan’s warcrime and atrocious during invasion history. In 2018 Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi was asked about his opinion on Jing Ri at a press conference. His answer was very simple : “The scum of the Chinese nation.” Their reputation on the Chinese internet is not “debated.” The common phrase is “人人喊打,” which basically means everyone wants to beat them up. This is not hyperbole. Public cases include dressing in replica Imperial Japanese Army uniforms to pose at Chinese war memorials, including the Sihang Warehouse. Cyberbullying and doxxing a Chinese middle-school student who donated evidence of Japanese war crimes. Using “cosplay” and “military hobby” as cover to glorify invasion history. Promoting Japanese right-wing historical revisionism in universities under the label of “academic discussion.” Most Chinese people make a clear distinction: remember the history, but don’t hate ordinary Japanese people today. 精日 do the opposite. They stand on the side of the invaders and treat national trauma as performance material. That’s why they are seen as people who cross a line, not “people with different opinions.”

Twenty Seconds of Silence: An Australian Journalist Confronts the Pain of History At the 2026 Belt and Road Journalists Forum, John Wallace from the Australia Asia Pacific Journalism Centre struggled to hold back his emotions while recalling his visit to the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders. He fell silent for more than 20 seconds, visibly moved by the weight of history. “When I saw history brought back to life before my eyes, I was overwhelmed by grief and shock,” he said. Only by confronting history can the world move towards a better future. We remember the past so we can move forward. #BeltAndRoadJournalistsForum2026 #NanjingMassacreMemorial #RememberHistory #NanjingChina #Peace #BeltAndRoad

🚨Criminal idiocy reigns in Brussels! 🚨We don’t buy Russian oil products directly from Russia, but we buy the very same products—made from Russian oil—from India, at double the price. At least the Indians actually process something. 🚨Now the US is going to buy diesel from Russia, slap a "Made in USA" label on it, and resell it to us—again, at double the price. Furthermore, the US is preparing to acquire the still-functional Nord Stream pipeline from Germany, buy Russian gas, and sell it to us at double the price, masquerading as American gas. 🚨The main thing is for Kaya to boast that we aren't buying Russian oil, and to keep cooking up more sanctions packages.

Another case of Europe turning into the frontline of America's bid to stay top dog. EU kill switch on affordable Chinese goods. On top of loss of cheap Russian energy lost to expensive US LNG. And public funds thrown at the war industry via Ukraine. 🤡💀 scmp.com/news/china/article/…

Just read Singapore Straits Times today. Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA) has issued ‘Love Letters’ to 7 private-owned corporations based in Indonesia concerning origins of trans-boundry haze. Group 1: 1) Bumi Andalas Permai 2) Bumi Mekar Hijau 3) SBA Andalas Wood Industries These three corporations had received similar notices during the 2015 haze crisis. And those cases remain open till today. Group 2: 4) Paramitra Mulia Langgeng 5) Sumatera Alam Anugerah 6) Hutan Lestari Raya 7) Bangkanesia Singapore’s preventive-measure notices were issued under its Transboundary Haze Pollution Act (THPA), which targets those responsible for causing or condoning fires. Indonesia has been seeing capital flight made by its non-pribumi tycoons, in anticipation of Indonesia’s delusting from MSCI ranking. And their fund mostly landed in Singapore and Hong Kong. Never in Labuan. Hence, Singapore can weaponise its monetary safe-vaults to squeeze their balls if compensation ain’t not coming like 2015. You maketh dunno at your own risk. Go for it, Lawrence!
Haze. Singapore PM Lawrence Wong hinted that he will take action based on Singapore's Transboundary Haze Pollution Act if necessary. 1) Malaysia maintains a hazy hands-off stance on haze. 2) Relationship with Indonesia cannot be forsaken, said Foreign Minister Mohamad 'UMNO' Hassan. kompas.com/tren/read/2026/10… Probably kowtow to that 'keturunan Jogja'?

Breaking: How Much Further Will Japan Go Down the Wrong Path? On October 17, coinciding with the autumn festival at Japan’s Yasukuni Shrine—held from the 17th to the 19th—Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi offered a *masakaki* (a ritual tree offering) to the shrine, which honors Class-A war criminals from World War II. A year earlier, in October 2025, Sanae Takaichi—then on the verge of assuming the premiership—opted against visiting the shrine during its autumn festival, likely out of concern for the potential international fallout. Instead, in her capacity as president of her political party, she made a personal financial contribution (*tamagushiryo*) to the shrine. During the spring festival in April 2026, she offered a *masakaki*, just as she did on this occasion. Several Asian nations have repeatedly voiced their opposition to Japan’s problematic actions regarding Yasukuni Shrine. During World War II, Japan launched wars of aggression and committed inhumane atrocities. Yasukuni Shrine serves as a spiritual instrument and symbol of Japanese militarism; the 14 Class-A war criminals enshrined there were the primary architects of those wars of aggression—making it, in effect, a "shrine for war criminals." Regardless of the justifications concocted by Japanese politicians, they cannot conceal their true intent: to rehabilitate war criminals, obscure responsibility for wartime atrocities, distort historical facts, and pave the way for an accelerated "remilitarization." Such misguided actions represent a desecration of historical justice, a challenge to the fundamental standards of civilization, and a provocation against the post-war international order. A correct understanding of and approach toward history is a vital prerequisite for Japan’s post-war reintegration into the international community, the political foundation for its relations with neighboring countries, and a key benchmark for determining whether Japan can truly uphold its commitment to peaceful development.

There's a really simple explanation - Taiwan was the first Japanese colony and the locals treated relatively nicely; the rest of SEA was treated horrifically It's like how Arab Israelis have much more rights than Arabs in the West Bank and Gaza, and thus like Israeli more

At this rate, Washington has discovered a Chinese spy in everything: weather balloons, port cranes, shipping companies, garlic… and now COSCO. Apparently the world’s most sophisticated intelligence network is hidden inside logistics equipment and vegetables. If paranoia were an industrial policy, America would have no peer.
COSCO, a Chinese-military company and one of the world’s largest shippers, is using its vessels to conduct espionage operations near U.S. coastlines. Select Committee Chairman @RepMoolenaar, @RepRickCrawford, and @RepCarlos sent a letter to @DHSGov Secretary Markwayne Mullin urging him to review and revoke COSCO Shipping’s privileges of receiving fewer inspections at American ports.

Two S’pore-listed palm oil firms named in Greenpeace report on Indonesian plantation fires @ML7077 straitstimes.com/business/co… SINGAPORE – Two Singapore-listed palm oil companies, Bumitama Agri and First Resources, have been linked to plantation areas in Indonesia where fires and smoke were detected, according to an investigation by environmental group Greenpeace. Another privately held company, First Borneo Plantations, which has ownership links to Singapore-incorporated companies, was also named in the Oct 5 report. In its report, Greenpeace identified a concession operated by Kayung Agro Lestari, an oil palm plantation operator in West Kalimantan, as one of the areas where fires and smoke were detected. The company is a subsidiary of Indonesian palm oil producer Austindo Nusantara Jaya (ANJ), which was acquired by First Resources in May 2025. The Greenpeace report also identified Damai Agro Sejahtera, an Indonesian plantation company affiliated with Singapore-listed Bumitama Agri, as among the concessions where fires and smoke were detected. Mainboard-listed Bumitama Agri, which has a market capitalisation of about $3.25 billion as at Oct 15, is linked to Indonesia’s Harita Group, a conglomerate with interests in mining and palm oil. The company is controlled by the Lim family, with Lim Gunawan Hariyanto serving as its executive chairman and chief executive. Greenpeace also identified Arjuna Utama Sawit as one of the plantation companies operating in areas where fires and smoke were detected, linking it to Indonesian palm oil group First Borneo Plantations, which it described as “originating from Singapore”. First Borneo has historical ownership links to Singapore. According to a 2019 regulatory filing by Thai energy company PTT, Singapore-incorporated Chancellor Oil operated a palm oil business through First Borneo Plantations. First Borneo has previously faced allegations of deforestation and the destruction of orangutan 🦧 habitats. In February 2026, environmental group Mighty Earth accused First Borneo’s PT Equator Sumber Rezeki concession of continuing to clear rainforests and orangutan 🦧 habitats without a permit in West Kalimantan.

Mao Zedong isn't just a hero for the Chinese people, he is a hero of humankind. 1. Founded modern China. 2. Ended the "century of humiliation," which was started by British drug dealers. 3. Restored sovereignty and ended colonial foreign domination and unequal treaties 4. Implemented nationwide land reform (early 1950s), redistributing land from landlords to peasants and breaking feudal structures. 5. Promoted women's rights via the 1950 Marriage Law, banning forced marriages, concubinage, and foot-binding. 6. Ended historic illiteracy through mass education campaigns. 7. Increased primary school enrollment and access for the masses. 8. Improved public health with "barefoot doctors," sanitation drives, and disease eradication efforts. 9. Raised life expectancy from 38 years in 1949 72 years. 10. Led the development of heavy industry with Soviet aid, despite the brutal embargo of the USA, which led to a famine despite China's best efforts. 11. Established state-owned industrial base, laying groundwork for later development in steel, coal, machinery. 12. Developed nuclear weapons which protect the nation today from imperialism powers. 13. Stop the imperialists from taking all of Korea. 14. Built extensive irrigation and infrastructure through mass mobilization (dams, canals, etc). 15. Opened diplomatic relations with the U.S. via Nixon's 1972 visit, shifting global geopolitics. 16. Unified written language efforts and simplified Chinese characters for broader literacy. 17. Fought the Fascist Japanese occupation effectively in base areas during WWII. 18. Inspired global anti-colonial movements as a symbol of Third World revolution. 19. Achieved early economic growth in the 1950s, despite brutal US sanctions on farming equipment and machinery. 20. Built foundational transportation infrastructure (railways, roads). 21. Elevated China's status as a major world power despite US attacks, counterintelligence, and sanctions.

You use Chinese to provoke Chinese people, yet you still fail to grasp one of the oldest ideas in Chinese thought: 君子和而不同,小人同而不和。 Harmony does not require sameness. Chinese people can disagree with Brazilian liberals on LGBT politics, drug legalization, or social policy and still see Brazil as part of the Global South and a partner against imperialism and colonial domination.and a partner against imperial domination. Politics is not a teenage friendship test. And your VPN line is even dumber. The fact that Chinese people cross a firewall to defend China does not prove they secretly hate their country. It proves the opposite: administrative restrictions do not erase national loyalty. You seem unable to understand that because your worldview assumes disagreement with government must equal betrayal of country. China does not need ideological clones. It needs partners who can disagree without becoming servants of someone else’s empire. You confuse political disagreement with civilizational disloyalty because colonial minds only understand obedience.
中国朋友们,我真的很高兴看到你们抨击巴西左翼,太棒了。 话虽如此,你为什么要用VPN?你应该直接按照共产党的剧本走。

Elon stated that China’s export controls on magnets set his robotics project back by three months. And that is the point. The U.S. spent years restricting China’s access to advanced chips, semiconductor equipment and AI hardware in the name of national security. China learned the lesson. Now Beijing restricts magnets and critical materials, and suddenly Washington discovers the tragedy of “weaponized supply chains.” This is reciprocity. You cannot spend years teaching China that interdependence is a weapon and then complain when China uses the same textbook. America sanctioned chips. China restricted magnets. Fair is fair. Washington taught the class. Beijing did the homework.

“Long time no see!” China's Wang Yi met Russia's Lavrov in a cordial atmosphere. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Baku on October 14. During the meeting, Lavrov joked, “Long time no see!” Wang replied: “Yes, it has been so long!” This encounter came less than three months after their previous talks in Kyrgyzstan on the sidelines of an SCO event. #ChinaDiplomacy

BRUSSELS ERUPTS: MASKED RIOTERS VANDALIZE PROPERTY AS PROTESTS TURN VIOLENT Scenes of chaos unfolded in Brussels, home to the European Union’s main institutions, as masked protesters clashed with police, set fires and vandalized property during demonstrations against government budget cuts. Reuters and AP reported that the violence came from a relatively small group on the sidelines of a much larger protest involving unions and students. Footage from the unrest showed vehicles and public property being attacked as police responded with tear gas and water cannons. The demonstrations were driven by anger over austerity measures, rising costs and education reforms — but the violence has intensified concerns about escalating unrest across parts of Europe. #Brussels #Belgium #Europe #Protests #BreakingNews

Not only liars but stunningly incompetent liars, as nailed in the comments. Andy Burnham might have feral cunning when it comes to political ambition but he is almost comically absurd in concocting his RAF Fairford narratives.
UK PM Andy Burnham confirms that the RAF Fairford incident was "highly likely coordinated in Iran, almost certainly directed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard."

BREAKING: Multiple protests and rallies break out in China as Chinese people protest too much winning.

A young Chinese neurotechnology company wiped out U.S. smart prosthetic firms that had boasted about their "advanced prosthetics" for years. BrainCo’s bionic hand weighs just 383 grams, delivers more than 50N of grip force, interprets neural and muscle signals, and lets users grasp, type, drink, exercise and control the hand almost intuitively. Western companies made smart prosthetics look like futuristic luxury hardware. China is turning them into something lighter, stronger, more practical and increasingly manufacturable. The real disruption is not that China made a better demo. It is that China is industrializing what others kept presenting as the future. America marketed the future. China put it on an arm.
