Recent coverage of US oil sales to Cuba has produced whiplash: a new private-sector opening, eye-popping numbers revised down, measurable relief but no macro fix—and a US govt enabling the trade while taking steps that may make it harder.

But a source linked to one company told the Miami Herald that ENETEC was only an intermediary and licensed private firms were the end-users.
If every unavoidable state touchpoint disqualifies trade, “supporting Cuban entrepreneurs” may be unworkable.

I can't be enthusiastic about this strategy from the D side either. "I'm more anti-communist than you" is a race to the bottom, and a sad reflection of the state of our public debate in South Florida.
Bc Cuba policy is not just about talking points. It involves hard choices.
For non-Miamians, let me invite you into the locura of our election silly season.
So, Hakeem Jeffries comes to town to campaign w D candidate for FL-27 Elliot Rodriguez. Surprising no one, they do a lazy stop at a local bakery for the ritual cafecito.

Owners of CAO have since said they didn't know the stop would turn into a press conference. That's a fair gripe if the Rodriguez campaign people didn't ask permission.
But honestly, for all the talk of Cuba transition plans and "Cuba is next" around here lately, maybe we could start by being better practitioners of small l liberal values, political tolerance, and the ethos of democracy home. Clearly we have work to do.
