🌐 💸 @circle is a late stage web3 startup determined to build a new internet financial system. Their flagship product is a digital dollar stablecoin - USDC. 🌐 💸
It's W10 / Q1 / 2024 & this week in our @MGMTBoston startup series we’ve got Circle. It feels like perfect timing to highlight them before a likely 2024 IPO and…where've you been?!? Crypto is back, baby!
Circle was founded in 2013 by @jerallaire & Sean Neville. Jeremy has been on the leading edge of digital trends for over 20 years, leading Circle as its Chairman & CEO and Sean has since graduated to the Board.
There’s been a lot that’s happened over the past couple years in crypto. But that’s all background noise. Because one of the most consistent, transparent, and regulatory forward thinking web3 companies all along is right here in Boston: Circle. They’ve weathered it all.
Circle is in the stablecoin business, facilitating faster payments directly from senders to receivers on a blockchain without third party intermediaries. What’s a stablecoin? A stablecoin pegs its value to an external reference or currency. In Circle’s case today, the US Dollar & Euro, 1:1.
There is approximately $140B in stablecoin circulation today with $4T in cash on U.S. corporate balance sheets as of Q3 ‘23. You can imagine there’s a large opportunity to digitize some of that cash onto blockchains. Now, with rates above 5%, that’s a pretty big tailwind propelling their business forward to a potential $1B+ revenue run rate.
The team has grown to 700+ employees, are hiring across the board, and are backed by Accel, General Catalyst, BlackRock, Fidelity Investments and others to bring digital dollars to the masses.

🔗✍ @duckbillai is a personal assistant for everyone, combining a consumer AI driven software platform with real life expert humans in the loop. ✍ 🔗
It's W9 / Q1 / 2024 & this week in our @MGMTBoston startup series we’ve got Duckbill, a Series A consumer AI startup delivering a direct to consumer execution engine to help manage your daily life.
For a small percentage of people, there are personal assistants. But, it’s a luxury largely out of reach. Founder & CEO @meghanvjoyce was the GM of US & Canada at Uber. After helping Uber scale to millions of customers and billions of rides, she became the COO of Oscar Health. She took board seats at Boston Beer Company and Guardant Health. Professionally, Meghan was flying.
But, she’s human, too. She walks among us with all the same complications life throws our way. Meghan & Emi Gonzalez founded Duckbill in 2022 to help overburdened adults find a better way to handle personal challenges, at scale.
The Duckbill team is an experienced flock and have all worked together in some way at Uber, Oscar Health & beyond. Their technical leaders @leggettmatt & @andrewjshults both worked with Meghan at Oscar Health and are based out in LA. Here in Boston, Meghan & Emi recruited fellow Uber colleagues Richard Smith & Leslie Bateman. Leslie even moonlights as the co-founder of Coblrshop, a tech enabled solution reimagining shoe repair.
Their current growth model is product-led growth and word of mouth recommendations. Subscriptions, including unlimited tasks, start at $99/month and their most popular plan is the $149/month household plan helping users handle all types of life admin.
Duckbill is serving customers across the U.S. with a large presence in metro hubs like Boston, NYC, LA, SF, Austin & Chicago. They have grown to 100+ copilots after the big fall launch and continue to work via word of mouth, prioritizing building technology that is functionally that much better. Their existing members tell their friends, building a powerful flywheel of brand building and usage.
The team has grown to 70+ employees and they recently announced a $25M Series A led by @ForerunnerVC with participation from @greycroftvc, @InspiredCapital, @generalcatalyst, G9 Ventures, @redantler, Future Back Ventures by Bain & Company and @offlineventures to make their vision a reality.

🏋@VerveMotion is building an industrial wearables robotics & software platform for hardworking humans. 🏋
It's W8 / Q1 / 2024 this week in our @MGMTBoston startup series we’ve got Verve Motion, a growth stage robotics & software platform helping to solve the modernization of warehouse operations with a human worn exosuit.
Founded out of Harvard’s Biodesign Lab in 2020 by @ignacio_galiana, @walshharvard, Mike Rouleau, and Nathalie Degenhardt this team has been working on the research that ultimately became the commercial startup Verve Motion for over a decade.
Verve Motion was spun out of Harvard in March of 2020 amidst overstretched supply chains, borders shutting, & a stretched labor force. Verve Motion’s mission to power the human workplace through people-centric robotics was primed for the moment.
More than 80% of warehouses lack any form of automation and only 5% have utilized sophisticated automation technology. Almost half plan to invest in technology of some sort in the coming years and automation technologies have a $22B+ global market today. But automation is uneven and capable humans are still needed at scale to deliver physical goods to consumers through complex supply chains.
The company has deployed more than 1,000 exosuits in the field across dozens of customers. Initial deployments typically involve 25-100 exosuits, with each exosuit subscription costing $4,500 per year. The package includes all the hardware, software & services, including deployment, warranty, and repair.
The Verve Motion team has grown to 50 people and, in 2024, the company plans to roughly double the size of the team. The company is focused on growing out its customer pilots to the thousands and tens of thousands of additional employees across its existing customer footprint.
Since the company's inception in 2020, Verve Motion's soft exosuits have helped American workers lift more than 300 million pounds. Its wearable solutions have eliminated up to 85% of lower back and hip injuries at sites and increased worker productivity by 3-7%, all while creating a positive effect on worker retention and recruiting.

🔬 👥 @CentaurLabs is the leading healthcare data annotation platform - helping AI developers build, monitor, and validate their models at scale, leveraging a community of 58K+ healthcare experts. 👥🔬
It's W7 / Q1 / 2024 this week in our @MGMTBoston startup series this growth stage company is powering scientific breakthroughs by annotating biomedical datasets at unprecedented scale and quality, with a unique collective-intelligence based approach.
Did you know 30% of the world’s data volume comes from the healthcare industry? And no, that is not expected to slow down. AI developers that want to leverage biomedical data to build AI have a difficult time getting their data cleaned, structured and ML-ready.
Founded by Erik Duhaime, Tom Gellatly & Zach Rausnitz in 2017, this team has built a collective intelligence-powered platform (i.e. network) of 58,000+ qualified labelers who help annotate biomedical data of all types - from text to 3D images - for their clients across the healthcare ecosystem, from medical device leaders like Medtronic, to pharma and household names in big tech.
Their intelligent medical crowd (think medical students in Ghana, radiologists in Vietnam, nurses in Nebraska) can often outperform individual experts and compete in labeling contests for prizes on Centaur’s iOS app. They’ve turned what is typically pay per hour work into free (and fun!) “work”, labeling millions of pieces of data any given week.
Today Centaur Labs has almost 30 employees, top tier funding from @ycombinator, @partners_matrix, @Accel, @SusaVentures and is processing 2M labels per week. They’ve processed over 175M labels in total since founding.
2023 was a big year - the company published 7 papers with academic research partners to prove out the methodology, closed their biggest deals to date, and are better differentiated and positioned than ever to capitalize on AI tailwinds in 2024. They released new APIs, a desktop labeling experience powered by Meta’s Segment Anything model (SAM), cleared SOC2 Type 2 and HIPAA audits, and released their new Validation dataset solution.
This coming year they’re excited to deepen partnerships in the ecosystem, grow the sales and CS team, and further penetrate healthcare segments where AI investment is growing rapidly.

👀 @VIZITLabs is enabling digital leaders, designers, and marketers around the world to see through their audience’s eyes in real time. 👀
It's W6 / Q1 / 2024 this week in our @MGMTBoston startup series we’ve got Vizit, the world’s leading content effectiveness platform, where customers view and optimize their digital content.
Wouldn’t it be reckless to send an email without spell check? Using the same logic, why would you publish a commercial image before checking it first or “Vizit-ing” it against the audience you’re serving? Vizit is building “spell and grammar check” for visuals.
@jehanhamedi founded Vizit in 2020 after working with F100 brands at a market research & AI consultancy he founded called Adhark. There, the team developed novel AI-based technologies to model and predict consumer perception to make more informed decisions. The technology they invented ultimately led to the formation of Vizit.
Before Adhark, Jehan was an operator at Crimson Hexagon - an AI powered consumer intelligence company - leading their Growth team before they were acquired for $450 million.
I tell you all this so that you know Jehan has been in Enterprise AI for the last 10+ years working with the world’s most innovative brands and technology companies, understanding trends & content that resonate with consumers, and is a named inventor on 25+ patents. For over a decade he has been inventing & building teams to help large enterprises use AI to predict consumer opinion and better connect with their customers.
This ain't no ChatGPT wrapper, alright??
Vizit raised a $10M Series A in Q4 of 2022, has grown extremely fast to 40+ employees, and have already added dozens of top tier enterprise customers like Mars, L’Oreal, Unilever, Harley Davidson & more. They have customers in 15 countries across their customer base and will add integration partners across their expanding partner ecosystem. The team will continue to invest in their GTM resources too, adding to the sales, marketing, and customer success teams in 2024.
