Hi all we have a paper in EcoEvoRxiv Preprints so if you are interested we are keen to get your thoughts. | Defence mitigation by predators of chemically defended prey integrated over the predation cycle and across biological levels ecoevorxiv.org/74xu2/

New #RSOS paper reviews the ways in which predators can overcome the chemical defences of prey, with a special focus on cardiotonic steroids. Read here: ow.ly/uLPM50KK6Hw @HannahMRowland @FrontlineEvo @MBulbert @edenling3

Some of these areas are difficult to sample because lack of infrastructure, some due to cultural reasons, and others like the Nullarbor just haven't been considered of interest. Regardless of reason, check your bias! There could be something interesting hidden in there.

Finally a piece of literature that celebrates my laziness
In the 1970s & 80s, anthropologists working in small-scale, non-industrial societies fastidiously noted down what people were doing throughout the day. I’ve been exploring the data & am struck by one of the most popular activities: doing nothing. [thread]

Assassin bugs rock!
This assassin bug nymph collects detritus from its surroundings and sticks them on its entire body except for its antennae, eyes and tarsii which you can obviously see in this picture. Hide and seek anyone?

This is indeed very cool
You heard right - spiders can use their webs to detect airborne sounds! Silk moves REMARKABLY well to air movements, so when a sound wave passes by a web, spiders can detect silk movement with the tips of their legs. Monumental work by Jian and Junpeng! pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.21…
This is fabulous I especially liked the frog cam haha
