1/2 It hasn’t always been easy - wrestling with film & television companies to secure the rights to release @Benjaminsal & @jetfury score work. So far we’ve got a 100% record - but at times it’s been extremely difficult as most film & tv networks have their own record labels

One of my favourite songs. Fine art too. .
This week in June 1994 the 'Lovetown' single charted in the UK, peaking at #49. This image by Stephen Lovell-Davis was taken during the making of the promo video, which was inspired by the artwork of Yayoi Kusama, and directed by Michael Coulson.

We did a huge interview with @LWLies recently, discussing Invada’s involvement with film scores & soundtracks. An extensive history in the labels OST output over the last 13 years & some insight into the A&R process. Thanks : @paulweeedon @thethirdhan lwlies.com/articles/invada-r…

‘Passion’ was the first official release on @RealWorldRec when the label launched on June 5th 1989. Also released that same day were the companion album, 'Passion Sources', a selection of traditional music, sources of inspiration and location recordings that fed into the creation of Passion, as well as albums by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Party 'Shahen Shah', Orquesta Revé ‘La Explosíon del Momento’ and Tabu Ley ‘Babeti Soukous’. 35 years later Real World Records continues to release new music and to believe that great music can be enjoyed irrespective of the nationality of the artists creating it.

The artwork for the second album was done again with Hipgnosis, but with Peter Christopherson who later went on to be a key part of the band called Throbbing Gristle. We did it in New York and again it was cold and snowy. Storm had had the idea of the nails tearing away at the paper of the image. I think it is something that he used on a theatre piece that he’d done with his friends Lumiere & Son, but it was something that I enjoyed a lot.' - pg

Happy anniversary to this cracking album. (The sleeve’s not half bad either 😉)
‘The album was full of, what at the time were ‘strange’ sounds. I remember when I met Ahmet Ertegun [founder of Atlantic Records] and he’d first heard that record, which Atlantic later dropped, he’d asked if I’d been hospitalised myself and obviously thought that I’d gone from being some sort of pop artist to some strange backwater. In the end Polygram took the record up in America and it did quite well, with some success for ‘Games Without Frontiers’, but at the time I remember the A&R guys were trying to encourage me to sound like the Doobie Brothers. One of the main jobs of the A&R Department of a record company is to try and make records that they’re going to sell. So they look at what’s selling at the moment and they try and get all of their artists to sound like that. At the same time, to be fair, I’ve worked with some really good A&R people who’ve made some very good musical points and have a lot of interesting input, but I’m very fortunate to have grown up in a time, in the post-Sixties, when artists were allowed to get on making their own mistakes, doing what they needed to do. You could listen to your record company, but you didn’t have to.' - pg
