4.6 TRILLION GALLONS OF RAIN expected across Florida over the next 7 days, especially for the Panhandle and northern half of the state. That's equal to 7 million Olympic pools! Hardest hit areas are projected to see 6"+ (brightest colors on the map). Lower totals the more south you get. All the rain will help to chip away at the 52% of Florida still in a drought, but we just don't want it all at once to bring flooding! #Florida

FLORIDA FLOOD THREAT - Get ready, Florida! An astronomical amount of rain is coming over the next two weeks. Over foot of rain is possible in the Panhandle & Big Bend with widespread totals of 6+ inches likely elsewhere across Florida - which is the equivalent of 10 trillion gallons of water. This has the potential to be the wettest October on record for Florida. It remains to be seen if any tropical trouble comes out of this messy pattern, but there will be plenty of Gulf lows through the Winter, and is a harbinger of things to come as this El Niño pattern establishes itself. #flwx ⛈️☔️💦

Most meteorologists have been saying for months, even before the season started, this was likely going to be a below average season due to El Niño (article below from May).
That’s like predicting a baseball team will lose 5-3 and they actually lose 5-0…and making that prediction months in advance. They correctly expected the team to struggle offensively, but it’s much harder to predict by how much.
Getting the magnitude wrong isn’t the same as getting the direction wrong…and neither justifies dismissing an entire field.

TOUCH OF FALL IN FLORIDA! 🍁 We're still on track for a small shot of less humid air and slightly cooler lows for most by Thursday into Friday. Inland areas of the Panhandle will be waking up to mornings in the 60s! The change will mainly be felt in North Florida, with little to no difference towards South Florida. But hey, we'll take any relief we can get!
