On the occasion of Uganda’s 64th Independence Day, I extend my warm congratulations to H.E. President @KagutaMuseveni, the Government and the people of Uganda. 🇺🇬
As a founding member of IGAD, Uganda plays an important role in advancing regional peace, stability and integration.
I commend Uganda’s continued commitment to our shared regional aspirations and reaffirm IGAD’s dedication to strengthening our cooperation towards a peaceful, integrated and prosperous region.
Happy Independence Day, Uganda!
I congratulate the appointment by HE @AbiyAhmedAli’s victorious Party of two ethnic Somalis to two key positions: HE Ahmed Shide as Speaker of Ethiopia’s House of Representatives (the first ethnic Somali in that lofty position) and HE Adem Farah, with a rank of Deputy Prime Minister.
The advancement of leaders from border communities in the political system, not only addresses historic marginalization, but lays a solid foundation for Regional trade and integration: a key mandate of IGAD. Congratulations!!
For Somalis and Somalia to survive in the challenging current geopolitical environment, two things are important, nay, existential:
1.Work on internal cohesion, resolve your differences in the time-tested traditional way, and do not export your grievances overseas.
2.Avoid entanglements in proxy conflicts that have very little to do with us. Improve your relations with our neighbors (Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda), and we should be ok.
Congratulations to HE @AbiyAhmedAli for the reelection as Prime Minister.
Ethiopia, a founding member of IGAD, is a pillar of the Peace and Security of the Region. The @IGADsecretariat will work with the government and people of Ethiopia for a prosperous, stable, and democratic Ethiopia under the leadership of HE @AbiyAhmedAli .
