For all those having a big cry about Villa and Newcastle being "asset stripped", be honest now and ask yourself this; Were either of them actually close to winning the title? Had either of them actually established themselves as a CL team season after season? The answer to both is no. Neither were just 2 or 3 players away either. Neither were going to be title winners in a period where Guimaraes/Isak/Tonali or Konsa/Tielemans/Watkins were going to be title level players. The windows didn't line up. Both now get to rebuild, but both are doing it from a much higher base level than they first did it after promotion/PIF. Both are also doing it with much higher revenues than they had back then too. Both get to reset their wage bill, both are able to get considerably younger with higher upside, and both will be free to attack next summers transfer window without SCR shackles. This is a one year reset for both, from teams that were not going to win the PL or CL, and allows them to build even better teams for the future. Also, find the writing off of Newcastle and claims they'll be a bottom 5 team hilarious. Massively improved their goalkeeping department. Improved their defensive group, which was already strong. And their attack will be better than last season purely on the basis that Wissa, Elanga, Woltemade and Ramsey can't be as poor as they were last season. Plus Osula will get more opportunities. They've taken a big step back in midfield, but signed two outstanding young midfielders and if they can add Nico G and get the best out of him, their midfield might be better in two years than it was last year. Bamba is a fantastic talent. As for Villa, I'd be willing to bet that the decision makers there are happy for Tielemans, Digne, Konsa, Watkins and Dibu to go. All within the last 24 months of their deals and Villa will not have wanted to be on the hook for their next contracts. All would be looking for their last big contract and all are likely to be in sharp decline within 24-30 months. Leaving 30-36 months of toxic money, which would have completely screwed Villa for the next 5 years with SCR. Both sets of fans need to be patient. It's frustrating without doubt, but you can't built from Championship calibre a decade ago to what you want to be in a short period of time. And let's again be honest, the reason there's a big gap between you both, especially Villa, and the "big 6", the reason Spurs have overtaken you both, is because your clubs were horrendously mismanaged for two decades apiece. It took Spurs a long time to build themselves into a big revenue outfit, you'll do it quicker because there's more money in the game now. Build properly and be respected when you win the big honours. Nobody wants another City or Chelsea. You shouldn't want to be another City or Chelsea. Nobody respects their titles because of the cheating. So crying about not being allowed to cheat is a particularly bad look.
