Years ago, I spent two months traveling around Bali - one month exploring villages across the island and another month doing absolutely nothing but living by the beach.
My daily routine when I stayed put for that month:
45-minute morning walk on the beach
Group yoga by the beach - you just tip the yoga master
Breakfast - mostly healthy (pic)
$7 massage
Scooter ride around town
Lunch by the beach
One-hour gym workout
Healthy snacks
Another massage
A couple of drinks by the beach
Dinner
Night walk
Get a Gelato, sitting on the steps outside the shops, slowly eating it while people-watching
Back to the hotel and sleep
Repeat. Every. Single. Day.
Honestly, it was hard to call that a vacation. It felt like life had been put on pause.
From our home.

On World Elephant Day, I want to clear up a misconception.
Temple elephants arenтАЩt simply тАЬwild elephants in captivity.тАЭ
Many were born in captivity or became separated from their herds and are now dependent on humans for food and care. For centuries, temples have housed elephants, often on large tracts of land that can provide more space than cramped private facilities. Into the thin air of Ladakh!
No sight seeing, no travel, no temptation to visit anywhere during the first 48 hrs is the mantra I follow strictly. Well acclimatised body is the key to trouble free trip ahead.

World Elephant Day ЁЯРШ
Last night, at dinner in an Indian home in New Delhi, I encountered a Sri Lankan elephant on a plate from Paradise Road in Sri Lanka. A small image of one of the most powerful symbols of Sri Lanka. But the real elephant is not meant for a plate, a picture or simply to be a symbol. It belongs in the wild. And on World Elephant Day, perhaps that is what we should remember most тАУ to protect the space and environment they need, and to make room for these majestic, sentient beings with whom we are so blessed to share this planet.

When asked about leaving his books unattended outside, where they could potentially be stolen, he responded that "those who can't read don't steal books, and those who can, aren't thieves."

What a slice of history belonging to Sadar Bazaar in #Ranikhet where I walk these days to do grocery shopping ЁЯШК
The Fruit Shop, Sadar Bazaar (formerly British Infantry Bazaar), Ranikhet, c. 1910sтАУ1920s - a fruit seller and his family pose outside their shop in Sadar BazaarтАФformerly known as British Infantry (B.I.) Bazaar.
Sadar Bazar in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand, originated during the British colonial era when the hill station was established as a military cantonment in 1869. Originally known as the British Infantry (B.I.) Bazaar or historically as Lal Kurti, it served as the central trading and supply hub for British troops and local residents.
It was known early on as Lal Kurti due to the red uniforms of the British infantry. It was designed as a structured market to supply food, fresh fruits, household goods, and gear to the military camp and growing hill settlement.
After 1947, the market transitioned from a colonial-provisioning outpost into a civilian hub managed alongside the cantonment. It integrated with nearby traditional market segments like Khadi Bazar and Zaroori Bazar. Today, Sadar Bazar remains the core heritage market of Ranikhet, blending old colonial-era stone structures with modern shops selling local Kumaoni goods, woolens, and daily essentials. #Ranikhet #market #history @LyfInTransit
