I offer you a word. Hiraeth. It's one of my culture, and it's something that BZ strongly evokes. I ask you to learn what that word means in all of its nuance, as it describes how BZ felt to me. The closest I felt this way proor was in Riven and Uru: Ages Beyond Myst. -9

And then... along comes BZ. A game that doesn't demonise the dissimilar, the alien, and the other. A game that encourages coexistence and vegan runs. A bizarre title set in a truly alien world where the goal isn't to murder and dominate, bur find ways to coexist and be. -8

I have empathy for otherness, so a lot of games where selective empathy is necessary is... hard on me. It hurts. And I feel left out. I usually only play pointy-clicks and story games, enduring some others when I can. But I crave exploration, mystery, and the truly alien. -7

That's the kind of thing you see in some games. In that example, they drove her to suicide in the end and celebrated it. That almost broke me. I have as much empathy for... anything as anything. Social identity limits empathy to the similar, but it doesn't apply to everyone. -5

It's okay to abuse an abuse-victim dragon, to kill her kids while she's watching. "It's just a dragon. It's only a game." I've literally seen this. Would they say the same killing human kids? Maybe. But I have sensitivity beyond that. Can't turn it off. Don't want to. -4

I don't want to feel forced to feel terrified of otherness, out of survival. I don't want to be set against otherness for the "sin" of having been born different. I AM otherness. And most devs just don't understand this at all. I get why, but it remains true nonetheless. -3
