A big congratulation to Dr. Katrin Ros, @katrinros, who successfully defended her PhD thesis titled ”The role of ice in planet formation”.
The Gaia satelite continues to impress and our own Gaia team members - and all of us - are excited about this great discovery:
Gaia spots Milky Way's most massive black hole of stellar origin! It's 33 solar masses, dormant, 2nd closest to Earth at ~2000 light years away, part of a wide binary with an old giant star, with estimated age of 11 Gyr: youtu.be/cU00B-6DeSQ #GaiaBH3 cosmos.esa.int/web/gaia/iow_…
Congratulations to Katrin Ros, who has now nailed her thesis titled ”The role of ice in planet formation”.
Proud to have Oscar Agertz’ Vintergata simulation featured on ESA Science. Check it out :-)
Today Johan Appelgren defends his PhD thesis titled ’Formation and Evolution of Protoplanetary Discs’.
The faculty oponent is Dr. Paula Pinilla and Johans thesis advisor is Prof. Anders Johansen (@AstroAndersJ).

The Second #ARRAKIHS Consortium Meeting took place last week, a three-day meeting in Sweden. The meetings on the progress of the mission study and the development of the project's instruments were a success!! We are very grateful to @LundObservatory for hosting us so well🤗
For the past 22 years the Lund astronomers have been working here at Sölvegatan 27, but now we are moving. As of next week you will be able to visit us across the street in the A400 section of the Physics building.
Well done Dr Rebecca @kaosteorin Forsberg! Well done!
Bra jobbat Rebecca!
Idag har jag spikat min avhandling! (fysiskt på två ställen, då vi är i mitten av en flytt av avdelningen). Den finns att ladda ned här: portal.research.lu.se/sv/pub…
We now have a paper model of @ESO ’s new ELT telescope to admire as we wait for the real one to be built.
Today Göran Östlin gave the first seminar in the Lund Observatory seminar series : "SELTIC, Swedish engagement in ELT instrumentation".

Adam has been working under the supervision of Diane Feuillet and @rosspchurch for the past 1,5 years. ✨ – at Lund, Sverige
Day 3 is already in full flow! Erik Fridén just defended his master’s thesis on the chemical evolution of the Milky Way 🌌🧪
Erik worked under the supervision of Nils Ryde and Govind Nandakumar for the last 1,5 years. ✨
As the last talk for today, @Neereea44 is defending her Master’s thesis on forming wide-orbit planets via pebble accretion 🪐
