OG Xbox with 1.2ghz Pentium III Tualatin CPU upgrade, 128mb RAM and Open Xenium installed. Finally got around to finishing this. Also installed a 500gb hard drive (would have liked bigger but it is what I had on hand) along with Startech IDE adapter. Will be keeping this one for myself, although I do plan on doing more in the future

Also, CPU caps were replaced, and clock cap was removed

Also, DVD drive was removed and 3d printed HDD mount and DVD delete bracket was installed as I have no interest in playing physical Xbox games. Had to do a bit of creative trimming to get the HDD mount to fit though as the CPU heatsink was in the way. I may have to make my own 3d print or opt for one of the other known methods to deal with the raised heatsink

Here's the first release of the Xbox 360 Peer Pressure softmod. Blog post will be out in a few weeks with all the technical details. Barring any critical bugs I'll be "hibernating" for the next 2 months to recoup my sanity from working on this project github.com/grimdoomer/Xbox36…

I would sooo appreciate any help with closed testing. Heaps of us grew up with a NES, 1: Opt in groups.google.com/g/vajnes-c… 2: Grab the app (it could take up to a few hours until your opt in registers) Web - play.google.com/apps/testing… Android - play.google.com/store/apps/d…... See less

The N64 board cleaned up pretty good. I still have to address the connectors. Thankfully, the multiout is totally clean.
Next up is taking a look at the inside... It definitely needs some cleaning up! Thankfully, all the screws came out without too much fuss. Hard to imagine this thing is still functional.

Repair time: Nice quick one. N64 turning on but not displaying picture. First started by cleaning the cartridge and jumper pack slot. Doing this brought it from displaying nothing to displaying a black screen that was giving the odd colored flicker here and there. Inspected PCB and found two spots of corrosion. One that had eaten through the trace of pin 118 of the RCP. The other was behind the pins on the video encoder, but this corrosion was only surface level, so no damaged trace. Cleaned up both areas and patched the broken trace going to the RCP. Console is now fully working Unfortunately, did not get any photos of the actual repair on this one

10 years ago today, this extraordinary album was released! shaped by hypnotic melodies, crushing atmospheres, and the cold terror of the infinite void, it remains a majestic and timeless masterpiece that confronts us with humanity’s insignificance in the vastness of the universe

Not sure why people think AI will take over the world. It can't even get basic electronic component footprints right

PAL NES console with Lava RGB+AV board, recapped, new 72 pin connector and clear shell fitted. This is the first NES console I have modded and I must say I find the system quite enjoyable to work on. Also, the oldest system I have modded so far.

BadWDSD installed in a PS3 Super Slim. I'm sort of surprised that this project has not had more attention. I remember some months back when it came it out there was quite a bit of chatter about it, but I have not really seen too many installs which is interesting. Anyway, essentially allows you to run a special CFW on any NOR based PS3 eliminating the need for HEN. This unit also had its HDMI port replaced as it was faulty. Might keep this one for myself for a bit as I have never had a PS3 before

Sega Genesis from yesterday modded with 3bp v2, DFO and switchless region free. I will say the video output with the 3bp fitted is absolutely excellent compared with the model 2 Mega drives that I normally do. Too bad there was not more of these floating around AUS

Repair time: Sega Genesis 3 VA1. This board had a previous recap + trace repair attempted however the unit was still not working. Removed cart slot and trace repair. Then removed corrosion with mini grinding pen. First trace from the top got completely got destroyed just from removing the old repair. Second one was fine on the surface but was not getting a connection to the board as via had failed. Third one was severed, but via was fine. Everything else was just surface level. Repaired third trace on top of the board and sealed area up with UV solder mask. Repaired other two with wires on the bottom of the board. Console now boots fine without issue. I will say the repair attempt on this was not too bad. In fact, I would say they were about 95% there to getting a working console. Person who did this can solder fine, and I will actually be keeping the recap. Where they went wrong however 1. Too large a gauge of wire on the trace repair 2. Did not remove corrosion 3. Did not check to make sure repaired connections were connecting back to where they were meant to Will be giving this console the 3bp, DFO and region free treatment.

Repair time: Xbox 360 4GB Corona. Was putting out secondary error code 0101. Upon inspecting the PCB I found corrosion around one of the RAMs. Removed components as they were in rough shape and replaced them. After that the console was still giving RROD but was giving a secondary error code 0100 which is also RAM related. Decided to remove RAM IC and upon removing there was no solder on a few of the pads and they were also fairly dull even after wicking off old solder. Ended up having to scrape them to get them to take solder. Re-balled RAM IC, reinstalled RAM and console is now booting fine..... However, upon testing I found WIFI was not working. Testing around where the wireless module is connected, I found R1A1, which is meant to be a 0ohm resistor was reading around 180ohm. Bridged R1A1 and now WIFI is working. I actually did not get pictures of this part of the repair so have taken a photo of a donor board just to demonstrate the horrible position this is in. Another console saved from the landfill.

This looks pretty good for us types that don't like to spend too much on this sort of stuff. Fairly happy with my current setup for the time being, but will certainly be considering in the future
