For #ttrpg #gamedesign purpose: what icon would you use for "effort" and "favour"? Both are game resources, effort improves skill checks, favour is meta currency. Theme is middle-eastern & india inspired fantasy.

Hebrew speaking researchers, can you recommend any *offline* transcription tool that supports Hebrew? I tried "Whisper Transcriptions" from Apple Store but it's editing interface is terrible...

Happy to share that Whisper's large-v2 did surprisingly accurate transcription of Hebrew, in only 1.5 the time it would take to do entirely manually!

Very suspicious!

There was one low-hanging improvement that could have been done by publishing the zoom call link for each room online. All speakers were asked to join the call anyway for auto-transcription, the link might have well been available online.
Been reading a few #chi2023 folk tweeting disapproval with the online experience. Clearly it was minimal-ish but it’s easy to underestimate the insane amount of work (and cost) needed to do hybrid well. Personally, I don’t think the technology is there yet.

I've decided to jump on the post-CHI bandwagon. Here comes my #CHI2023 appreciation thread 🧵:

My untested #CHI advice for future self is: if you are planning to meet a lot of people you never met before, dye your hair in some crazy colour

Can one create a "safety net" around LLMs (the likes of Jurassic-2 or GPT-4) to make sure that LLMs are "aligned" with human values? there has been a lot of chatter around "jailbreaking" ChatGPT and the question is whether through further training one could "tame" the machine?

New paper! Does alignment of LLMS trained on massive corpuses that inevitably contain undesirable behavior is feasible? We proved that the answer is not 🛑, and that the popular RLHF alignment technique can make the situation worse! More details in cs.huji.ac.il/~yotamwolf/ali…

My daughter, who's had a degree in computer science for 25 years, posted this about ChatGPT on Facebook. It's the best description I've seen.

@rustlang or: let's make all the gritty details of systems programming explicit!

don't be confused, I think it is a great idea. Although sometimes I would like to imagine that my program works even if it is leaking some memory here and there.

Replying to @FlatpackSweden
@FlatpackSweden the phrase "here the dog is buried" (פה קבור הכלב) is also used in Hebrew and is even the basis for a fun little song open.spotify.com/track/4nh8j… It means something like "this is the root of the problem"

And if I'm already bothering you with episode 43 I had two other questions about the 13-14 centuries: first, did the mongol invasion of Kiev and other parts affected Sweden at all?

Second, what were the relations between the Swedes with their rule of Finland and the Livonian and Templar knights and their conquests?
