If you really want to decrease gun deaths, support improved mental health care in low density states with high suicide rates, and interdiction of illegal guns into high crime neighborhoods. Murder and suicide account for the vast majority of firearm fatalities.

If Dems want to win again, they need to separate from the DSA. Candidates should not be able to be members of the Democratic party and the DSA at the same time.

Some people get dressed, other people just put on clothes. No matter how hard I try to get dressed, I usually just end up putting on some clothes.

My objection to the campus protesters chanting "We don't want no Zionists here" is that they were discriminating against an ideology. How would the universities have responded if they were chanting against Communists, Libertarians, Gnostics, or Neo-Keynesians"

The existence of words with distinct definitions fools us into thinking that human actions or natural phenomena actually fall squarely withing those definitions, even though reality lives in the gray zones. Judicial systems are built around this fallacy.

Regarding the ICE craziness: I'm assuming it's OK to exercise my 2A rights in defense of my 4A rights?

Regarding cafes in NYC: whatever happened to leaving your dog tied up outside? And, if the sign says no laptops and everyone is typing on their phone, what's the difference?

Why in the hell do insurance companies require "prior auth" for outpatient studies out of UC, which just makes me send pts to the ER (where the same study costs 10x more)?

I thought DJT was trying to bring industry back to America.. so why is he outsourcing incarceration?

Have any physicians out there actually found more joy in medicine after using AI to alleviate administrative burdens? I know I haven't !

We need to chill out on the use of "chilling" for every time something is banned or someone arrested. Some cases are just unique unto themselves, not a general "chilling" of speech or activities.

The difference between LW and RW radicals is that the LW version thinks its cool to be subversive, whereas the RW type mistakes their aversion to feminism and LGB for actual conservatism, and so they can't see themselves for the revolutionaries they are trying to be.

"Tech Libertarianism" was never real: Tech people like control, and are susceptible to authoritarian utopianism. They only talk about "freedom" when some law or regulation gets in their way; they don't believe in it as a general principle.

The stupidity of DOGE is the stupidity of the IT guy at your bullshit job: using overly broad keywords to block or get rid of something they don't like, and interfering with the frontline work that they don't fully understand.

Intelligence and wisdom are not related to each other. Many people who are smart believe they are also wise. The beginning of wisdom is to recognize how little wisdom one really has. As we say nowadays: It's a process.

"Yiddishche Kopf" for me always meant "a flexible mind". It is culturally embarrassing to meet Jews with rigid minds.

I don't actually think it's cool that the whole world is going to discover what SSPE is (look it up).

Populist leaders distrust expertise, and are often incompetent at governance. Their countries are easily defeated by those with pragmatic leaders heading a competent meritocratic bureaucracy. Intangible greatness is not enough.

Many authoritarians come to power by promising to end corruption. They are often not wrong about the corruption, but that doesn't make them good leaders worth following.

I'm "pro-Science", but: it seems oxymoronic to talk about "life saving research". It more like "research we hope saves lives, but we haven't completed the clinical trials yet, so we can't be sure."
