We are doing get to know you presentations in my lab to share hobbies and things we do in our free time (celebrating having a life outside of work!!) I kicked us off presenting about my baking: how I got into it, why I bake 3-4 times a week, and my nerdy baking-research analogies

I shared examples, including the fact that I document my baking almost to the same extent that we document our design processes in our work, and that I once applied for a job using a macaron as a metaphor for my research (yes, it was a hit and you can find it on my website 😝)

I'm teaching an advanced research writing class for PhD students this semester and we spent our time today co-constructing our syllabus! Really fun to be able to build the course structure, policies, and content with students

Anyone know of a symposium or session at #ISLS2024 about infrastructuring or organizational change? I was looking for it because I remember wanting to read the full paper because I couldn't attend but now I'm struggling to find what I was thinking of...

Reviewing a manuscript with previous revisions, but reading for the first time, for various reasons, it's not a great paper. If earlier I would give concrete feedback and reject, but how disheartening to recommend rejection after 3+ revisions! This is happening a lot... advice?

I find reviews like this hard to write because I want to recognize the work someone has put into revisions but with so much feedback and/or things that are unclear... I'm trying to imagine a world when even written in the best way this isn't a discouraging review to receive.
