Why do some of us reach a point in our careers where we want to do something differently? For me, part of the answer lies in the decade between 2003 and 2013. In  episode 7, season 7 of the Safeguarding and Domestic Abuse Sector podcast, I look back at a period of enormous change in child safeguarding and some of the cases that shaped not only national policy and practice, but my own thinking about how systems learn when things go tragically wrong. I can report back on massive progress made on the writer's retreat today. Chapter 2 is now in the making. This is the Zen Den and there’s quiet writing time available here. This environment is so much more conducive for creativity and writing flow. I need to find a way to replicate this in daily life.

Here is my public declaration that I am writing a book. I am saying it out loud here to hold myself accountable. The adventure begins today as I head off to Lancashire on a writers retreat for a few days. I have found a cosy pub for dinner. I have a feeling of anticipation about the retreat and being amongst the other authors.
