A few weeks ago at TiECON East in Boston, I saw firsthand the power of bringing entrepreneurs together to share ideas, make connections, and help one another succeed. Now we're bringing that energy home! Great to join business leaders, innovators, and investors as we work to establish a Maryland chapter of TiE. Maryland has no shortage of talent or big ideas. By connecting the right people and opening doors for one another, we can turn those ideas into thriving businesses.

After four long years, the Veditz Building at the Maryland School for the Deaf is open again! It was wonderful to celebrate this exciting new chapter with students, educators, and the entire MSD community. This incredible space is about more than classrooms and technology. It's about giving students the freedom to explore their passions, discover their talents, and spread their wings. The future is bright at MSD!

Every one of us has a story. And somewhere in that story is a teacher. Public school teachers helped write my American story. Today, Maryland’s educators are helping write countless more. Thank you for the futures you make possible. 🍎🎓✏️

Happy birthday to the United States Navy! I’m grateful to the sailors who serve around the world, the veterans who carried that mission before them, and the families who support them through every deployment and homecoming. To Maryland’s Navy community, thank you for your service and sacrifice. We are proud to call you our neighbors.

On Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor the rich history, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples in Maryland and across the nation. Today is a time to celebrate Indigenous voices, reflect on the injustices of the past, and recommit ourselves to building a future where every community is seen, heard, and respected.

Congratulations to Michael James of Harford County Public Schools, Maryland’s 2027 Teacher of the Year! Tonight, we celebrated 24 extraordinary educators who show up every day to inspire, encourage, and shape the next generation. As someone who came to this country at seven years old and learned English with the help of my public school teachers, I know firsthand how much a great teacher can change a child’s life. Congratulations to Mr. James, our six other finalists, and all 24 honorees. Maryland is grateful for you!

Nurses are the heartbeat of Maryland's healthcare system. Every day, they lead with compassion, advocate for patients, and make our communities healthier and stronger. It was an honor to join the Maryland Nurses Association for its 123rd Annual Convention and celebrate the incredible people behind this work. From investing in our nursing workforce to expanding pathways into the profession, the Moore-Miller Administration is committed to taking care of those who take care of us.

Innovation must go hand in hand with protecting Marylanders. Governor Moore and I believe local communities should decide whether to welcome data centers, with strict state environmental standards, local hiring, and requirements that data centers pay their own infrastructure and energy costs without passing them on to consumers. As AI advances, we must also put safeguards in place to protect our personal information and our children, ensuring this technology serves Marylanders responsibly.

“We’ll continue to push to make sure that we put money into mental health services.” Mental health care should never be out of reach for anyone who needs it. Investing in mental health means investing in healthier families, stronger communities, and a better future for Maryland. Thank you to The Towerlight for highlighting this important conversation. thetowerlight.com/lt-gov-aru…

For nearly 50 years, Lee Saunders has been a champion for working people and the power of organized labor. It was an honor to join friends, family and labor leaders to celebrate President Emeritus Saunders last week as he begins a well-earned retirement after 14 years leading AFSCME. Thank you, Lee, for a lifetime of fighting for workers, strengthening unions and making sure working people have a voice. Your impact will be felt for generations to come.

Behind every breast cancer diagnosis is a person whose life, family, and future matter. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I’m honoring those navigating treatment, celebrating survivors, remembering those we’ve lost, and thanking the loved ones and care teams who stand beside them. Every Marylander deserves access to screening, compassionate care, and support through every step of their journey.

A small symbol can open the door to greater understanding, but patience and respect must follow. I delivered remarks and presented citations at the one-year anniversary of Eric’s ID Law, honoring the advocacy that helped bring this change to Maryland. The law’s voluntary butterfly symbol on licenses and IDs helps alert others to nonapparent disabilities, creating an opportunity for clearer communication and safer interactions so every Marylander is treated with dignity.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported in their own home. Maryland has proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month to stand with survivors and recognize the advocates working every day to help them find safety and support. We must remain committed to removing barriers to care, holding abusers accountable, and building a Maryland where survivors know they are heard and never have to face this alone.

Innovation takes talent, investment, and people working together. I toured Rocket Lab’s Middle River facility to see how Maryland workers are building components for spacecraft and launch vehicles, then talked with the Maryland Aerospace and Technology Commission about growing our aerospace industry. Connecting our businesses, research institutions, and workforce will help turn Maryland’s aerospace strengths into good jobs and career opportunities for people across our state.
