Thank you @JackieBradleyJr! You've been so fun to watch, and you have been my favorite player for a long, long time. You play and live with such class. Wish you and your family all the best. I will miss you as I follow the Sox.

Suffering people often need others to have faith and hope for them.  Admonitions to hope or trust only often result in despair; if the sufferers were able, they would do so.  It is often helpful to say, “I know you struggle to hope right now. I will hope for you.”

The authority by which the Christian leader leads is not power but love, not force but example, not coercion but reasoned persuasion. Leaders have power, but power is safe only in the hands of those who humble themselves to serve. (John Stott)

Your inner perfectionist needs Lent...needs the gift of limitation, vulnerability, and confession. It’s exhausting to continually keep shame tucked away, to pretend rage doesn’t rise up. Being right and being good all the time is wearying. In the dust, you’re simply the beloved.

So great to be governed by someone who lives in a world of truth, can quote Augustine and refer to his own soul in reflection.

I don't know the Jesus some have paraded and waved around in the middle of this treachery today. They may be acting in the name of some other Jesus but that's not Jesus of the Gospels.

Hey @tedcruz this anarchy is now part of your legacy.
A case can be made that at its best the "American way of life" should be preserved: life, liberty, happiness, opportunity, democracy. But it should not be confused with a gospel way of life: joyful suffering, hopeful self-denial, sacrificial love, peace-bearing, humbly generous.

I’ve heard stories of people leaving mega churches because their pastor is “preaching social justice over the gospel.” Sigh. This makes me wonder how many predominantly white mega churches would be mega in size if they consistently preached a gospel that reflected justice.
