Spent today with our Head of Risk reviewing Welcome Bonus math.
200–500% welcome bonuses are now industry standard. Not because operators got generous, but because most casino products can't retain without subsidizing.
Netflix doesn't give you 1 month free every login. Spotify doesn't pay you to open the app. Uber doesn't 5x your ride credits monthly. Those products retain on product. Casinos retain on bribes.
Why? The product layer is paper thin and differentiation is zero. Every operator sells the same 10,000 slots from the same 10 providers (examples attached). So one of the only competitive surfaces left is bonusing. 100% becomes table stakes. Then 200%. Then 500%. It's a race to the bottom. (This same race applies for lossback and autobonusing.)
And the economics are brutal. CPAs run $100–$350 per player and have risen 50% in five years. 30%+ of new depositors on avg churn within the first month, and the ones who stick around have accounts on multiple casinos.
On top of that, the bigger your headline bonus, the more grifters you attract: players who clear the terms, withdraw, and move to the next operator running a bigger number. You're paying to acquire someone else's churn. And the players who aren't gaming the system? They're confused by the wagering requirements they need to clear.
So you're stuck in a loop: inflate bonuses to acquire, tighten wagering to survive, lose the players worth having, inflate bonuses again.
These bonuses aren't a strategy. They're a symptom of a product that can't stand on its own.
The answers already exist outside casino, but nobody has applied them yet.
We have.
In 4 weeks I'll quote this thread and show you what we built.
