Two people can interpret the same scene differently based on life experience. But part of being media literate is being able to distinguish who the story is meant for. If it’s not relatable to you, it’s okay to say “this isn’t for me” and move on.

But we gotta stop policing how queer stories are told. Stories shouldn’t have to be watered down to make them palatable for the public. Not all stories are going to be masterpieces, but if they can make at least one person feel seen, that makes them worth telling.

Gonna continue to poke the bear and add on that this current discourse is a great example that media won’t always be relatable to you, but that doesn’t make it BAD. We all have different experiences, and sharing our stories is how we gain a better understanding of each other.

Coming at this from another angle, but I feel like that's the point... It's not true BDSM. There are a lot of opportunistic men that disguise their cruelty as "BDSM." Then, there are people who endure the treatment to numb their pain. Sex can be a form of self-harm.

I love when good characters make bad choices in media. I love when characters have backwards character development… Depictions of bad behavior in media can be just as impactful as depicting good behaviors.
