One thing Trump is terrible at is keeping secrets. Listen to this foreshadowing. And remember it when a "new initiative" from the "right Ukrainians" surfaces in a month or so.

There is a generation of Republican Senators who came up without
ever being tested.
It was easy to
be @SenatorWicker, @LeaderJohnThune, @JohnCornyn.
They never had to face moral choices and could go along assured they were voices for decency and freedom.
But they will be remembered as the Butchers of Ukraine. The quiet, weak men who did nothing while a war of genocide was waged with their complicity.
They chose comfort over courage. I hope they lie awake at night hearing the screams of Ukrainian children burning alive. But their sad truth is they sleep well thinking about their campaign cash on hand and poll numbers.
They are the banality of evil.

They (I mean the officials with their brilliant plans) are simply astonishingly persistent in their complete failure to understand where they are, whom they're dealing with, and what they're doing.
They still stubbornly believe that Putin wants their money, their “benefits of economic integration,” their “long-term energy deals.” That he gives a damn about their Wall Street principles of “businessmen don't start wars when there's more money to be made.” They still think Putin is fighting over what remains of the ruins of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, rather than to get all of Ukraine and thereby turn himself into Europe's totalitarian hegemon.
They still think that, after this entire orgy of appeasement and collusion with him, Putin has even the slightest motivation to “stop at the current line of control” or agree to any “security guarantees for Ukraine.”
And they still think Putin gives a damn about the hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers killed, the living standards of ordinary Russians, or how his appeasers intend to satisfy his imaginary “security concerns” straight out of the Kremlin TV's war propaganda reels.

White House diplomacy approaching total incoherence:
1. Trump claims UKR attacks responsible for diesel shortage, yet seeks RUS supplies to make good RUS shortfall;
2. Russia may not have diesel to meet its offer. It has had to lift its own export ban;

Zelenskyy is the anti-Trump, a person of courage and principle who has stood in the face of overwhelming odds. Trump will never be him. Trump can only envy and resent the respect that Zelenskyy has earned.
"I think it's time for Ukraine to get a new president," President Trump said Saturday, slamming Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for targeting Russian diesel refineries after Trump made a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel.
"He can do whatever he wants, but he can't do that because we have a world problem," Trump said. "And the problem is caused by the lack of refineries for diesel fuel... He'd better damn well stop."

I hate watching Trump use our military to roll out the red carpet for autocrats. Our men and women in uniform didn’t swear an oath to be props in some authoritarian ego-stroking spectacle. It’s beneath them—and beneath the United States.

That just is not true. Please stop these ridiculous talking points. I have gone to stand with these families every single year for a decade now. My friends and neighbors are not crying for 6 hours straight. We are greeting each other, hugging each other, laughing at the memories and the jokes the families tell remembering their loved ones. Most politicians do not stay the entire time, in fact every year, at the end it is usually just me and former mayor Mike Bloomberg. This year was different @NYCMayor did. He stayed for every name and even stayed after to talk to families for 45 minutes. My friend who works for the memorial, even told me it was a new record. @AOC , for the record was there at 7:30 am and also stayed for every name and this brief moment they said was of them laughing was just when she walked up to him and said hello.
When I said hello to him with my daughter he even whispered to me after our hug “hi my friend! Hi Zoe! Sorry I didn’t see you, I’m super focused on the stage right now.” And he was. He listened to every story and every name and was there for our community of lower Manhattan. We appreciate you both.
I hope these gross talking points will end.

For a year and a half on the campaign trail, I kept saying Trump didn't create this mess. He was the result of decades of policy decisions that left more and more people out. Because when the American Dream isn't possible, people are willing to vote for someone who promises to blow it all up.
That's what we got.
Ben is spot-on, as always, about where Democrats must go from here.
"With Trump receding into the past, Democrats have an opportunity to be much bigger than the party that struggled in his shadow — but only if they are willing to let the party become a vehicle to take back power for people who feel they have none." nytimes.com/2026/09/08/opini…

Question: If President Trump says New Mexico is New America, are Spanish city names also doomed? Will Los Angeles become The Angels? San Diego now St. James? San Fran now St Frank? And don't get me started on New ENGLAND. Geez.

The painting visible behind Zelensky in his tweets today is of the Kremlin burning. He was photographed with it last year for a Time article, which upset the Russian government. It's been moved from another room - presumably for the purpose of sending the Kremlin a message today.

A harrowing new video from Bakhmut, filmed in the summer of 2026. The Ukrainian city was captured by the Russians three years ago and has lain in ruins ever since.
In this once-vibrant city of 72,000 inhabitants, there are no longer any shops, schools, kindergartens, cafés, hospitals, or clinics. Nor do any people live there anymore.
Putin’s propagandists call this "liberation."

By the way, remember this, kids:
- spending five years raining missiles down on Ukrainian apartment buildings,
- burying Ukrainian families alive beneath the rubble of their homes night after night,
- dropping bombs on theaters, railway stations, and supermarkets packed with people,
- plunging tens of millions into darkness and freezing cold during brutally cold winters,
- destroying dams on major rivers,
- filming snuff videos of beheadings, castrations, and the torture of POWs,
- burning POWs alive en masse inside a locked prison barracks,
- firing a missile straight into a children’s cancer hospital in central Kyiv,
- striking the radiation confinement structure at the Chornobyl nuclear plant with a drone and etc etc etc
None of all that, apparently, qualifies as “state terrorism.”
“State terrorism,” you see, is when, in response to all of the above, you destroy the aggressor state’s oil industry and issue advance warnings about the dangers of flying through the aggressor state’s airspace in order to avoid civilian casualties.
Make sure you don’t get the two confused!
