NBC News is now covering the research by Beatriz Villarroel and Stephen Bruehl examining mysterious astronomical transients photographed before the launch of Sputnik.
Their peer-reviewed research found statistically significant associations between these transients, nuclear weapons tests and historical UAP reports. We still don’t know what these objects or flashes represent, and that is exactly why this research matters.
For decades, the possible connection between UAP and nuclear activity has largely been discussed through witness testimony and historical reports. Now we are beginning to examine these questions using astronomical archives, statistics and scientific methodology.
This is how we move forward. Not by deciding what the answer should be, but by following the evidence wherever it leads. Science should never be afraid of the unknown.

This 3 minute UFO recording was submitted to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) following a report from a witness in Cookeville, Tennessee, USA. The footage was recorded from the witness's home using a night vision monocular on 21 August 2026. The witness reported that an object entered the camera's field of view, moved north, then south, and later west, before moving away over a tree line.
The witness reported being unable to see the object with the naked eye and only observing the anomaly through the night vision device. NUFORC's investigation classified the case as Tier 4, citing technical/optical effects producing the anomaly observed in the video. The investigation report also notes that the footage and accompanying information were reviewed with technical consultation from Marian Rudnyk, identified in the report as a former NASA astronomer, planetary scientist and space imaging specialist.

"Watching the skies on a Friday night from my backyard and an object came into frame, floated around for 3 minutes, made aggressive moves occasionally, then floated away over a tree line. I wasn't able to see it with my naked eye."

He is saying the object is real, the lights make little sense if the craft crossed light years, and the two remaining explanations he will entertain are classified American technology or a psychological operation in the Reagan Star Wars mould.
