An old friend of mine died today. Cancer. He was just a year younger. We met 20 yrs ago in Syracuse, were competitors in Pittsburgh, became colleagues in Boston. We fell out of touch, but just reconnected. I just wish I did sooner. Tell your friends you love them.

Gross. Prediction markets are ruining America’s youth, America’s news media, America’s sports, and America’s politics.
Our midterm election coverage will include not only CBS News polling data, but also integrated data from Kalshi, our prediction market sponsor. We'll offer a glimpse into how prediction market traders are pricing race outcomes – but it will be the voters that decide it all.

BREAKING WSJ: The Trump Justice Department is reviewing whether the special prosecutor's office that investigated Watergate committed misconduct. A revisionist historian went to DOJ HQ to present his case that Richard Nixon and his associates weren't treated fairly. wsj.com/us-news/law/decades-…

Why are members of the GOP now obsessed with rehabbing Nixon?
.@RepRileyMoore (R-WV) on the Watergate scandal: "Richard Nixon was absolutely couped out of office and was framed. All of this was fake."

Republican or Democrat, no U.S. president should display framed photos of dictators in the White House. It’s an insult to the democratic values that office is supposed to represent.

The Trump administration appears to have changed its AI chatbot so that it no longer debunks Trump lies. Yesterday: It said Biden won the 2020 election and there's no indication of widespread fraud. Today: Says it can't answer such questions.

New — Hakeem Jeffries is already working to corral — and connect with — a new crop of progressive dissenters, sources told @washingtonsun Jeffries has now spoken with all the progressives who have not committed to backing him for speaker, and has met with or plans to meet with each in person, a source familiar with the outreach told me. Jeffries’ leadership team are activated too. Joe Neguse and Lauren Underwood — both angling to move up the leadership ladder next Congress — have reached out to the progressive candidates. The conversations were described to me as friendly and welcoming, with offers of advice and support The outreach comes as Jeffries has also signaled some movement on issues that have divided him from the left. He recently said U.S. policy toward Israel “must change” and that Israel can pay for its own sophisticated weapons. On health care, he still opposes Medicare for All but has emphasized that health care should be a right for every American There are also signs the outreach may be working: William Lawrence, who previously said he hoped to vote for an alternative to Jeffries for speaker, has since backed him But the real fight may come down to the size of a Democratic majority. As one progressive candidate told me: “If it’s thin, then [Jeffries] is going to need to negotiate with anyone who has concerns about him having the gavel.” More on how Jeffries is courting the left: washingtonsun.com/congress/h…
