Final numbers of Lok poll for #KarnatakaElection2023
BJP (@BJP4India) appoints national office bearers of the party's Yuva Morcha (@BJYM).
Union Minister #KirenRijiju (@KirenRijiju) writes to Congress President #MallikarjunKharge (@Kharge), saying that after repeated requests the Congress Parly didn't give dates for discussion after which the Govemment's outreach had extended to other political parties. Consultations were held with representatives of parties including the DMK, SP, YSRCP, NCP, Shiv Sena (UBT), AIMIM and BJD with a view to facilitating dialogue and building a broader consensus in support of the proposed legislation. In these circumstances, it is not clear why the demand for consultation is being made repeatedly, when the Government has already made sustained efforts for dialogue; what is now required is constructive cooperation from the opposition parties, rather than arepetition of the same demand without due regard to the consultations already undertaken.
These efforts reflect the Government's firm willingness to undertake consultation and constructive parliamentary engagement. I reiterate that the Government remains committed to the basic principles of parliamentary democracy and to facilitating meaningful dialogue through the effective functioning of Parliament. We value the participation of all political parties in deliberations and discussions on all matters of national importance. I also hope that Congress Party will play a constructive role and will not obstruct important future legislations.
The following resolutions were adopted at the meeting of DMK Members of Parliament, held at 11.00 a.m. today (17 October 2026) at the Murasoli Maran Meeting Hall in the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, Chennai, under the leadership of DMK President M.K. Stalin.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the BJP of undermining democratic rights, linking the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to restrictions on protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

Karnataka CM DK Shivakumar says, "The right to peaceful protest is fundamental to our democracy. We cannot demand that right for ourselves in Delhi and deny it to others in Bengaluru. I have taken note of yesterday's incident involving protesters and members of the media. I have sought a full report on the circumstances that led to the police action. If there has been any unnecessary use of force or excess, accountability will follow. Let me be clear: disagreement with the Election Commission, disagreement with my government, or disagreement with me personally does not diminish anyone's right to peacefully express it. Karnataka must hold itself to the democratic standards that we expect from the rest of the country. There will be no double standards"
