If you arrange your Pokemon types in a specific way, you can “stone” evolve Pokemon without stones as long as they’re the 1st Pokemon in your team & the 2nd/3rd Pokemon are a specific type. Ex. Jigglypuff is the 1st in your team (maxed friendship), Togepi & Geodude are 2nd/3rd.

Would recommend to make the switch to heartgold/ soulsilver. Encounters are faster, you’re more likely to get steelix with magnet pull, and just it being safer since your save wouldn’t die with a dead battery. But ngl the grind on silver/gold is respectable
