Along with new office spaces, with about 46 km of Metro lines functional and a drop in passenger numbers post-Covid-19-induced lockdown, the 170-plus-year-old #Mumbai suburban railway system is now on a cusp of change. It is trying to adjust and cater to the increased crowds and changed transit patterns and trying to innovate. Many new office spaces are coming up away from existing old railway stations and railways are now trying hard to cater to these new-age hubs by tweaking termini, adding services and making a power shift, away from South Mumbai. A few ideas about what can be done & where.

He wants to buy an old #Mumbai double decker bus, of the last few that remain, come what may! 46-year-old Yatin S Angare is like a child when you mention double deckers, especially buses, and even trains to some extent. His two-storey family mansion at Dahisar is full of model double decker buses of almost every class in the world, literature on them, loads of old paper cuttings and he himself is into making precise-looking models of all kinds of double decker buses used in Mumbai so far. But the collection will not be complete, till he gets a real one.

In fresh data released by the transport department of road accidents in the first four months over the past three years, it has been revealed that while the number of accidents and deaths has gone down in congested Mumbai and suburbs, it has been increasing in the adjoining cities of Thane, Navi Mumbai and Mira Bhayander cities. Experts say rash driving and lack of discipline are among main reasons for the rise.
The statistics also revealed that the number of deaths caused statewide due to accidents has come down in the first four months of 2023, following the Regional Transport Office's (RTO) scientific approach in gathering taluka-wise accident database and enforcing road safety measures along with its ongoing six-month safety campaign.
