Okay this is fun; a paper by @RmusciPHD and me is used as a citation for the definition of a causal effect in the new NIH/FDA glossary of terms for clinical research! fda.gov/media/178477/downloa…

To be fair it’s a bit of a weird reference for this. There are many other classic refs on this!

This was timely and fascinating, since I recently experienced a different world -- in Australia all tips and tax were included in the listed price. It was a huge mental relief! nytimes.com/2024/08/29/podca…

Of course I only experienced it as a consumer, not an employee or employer, but I appreciated the transparency and clarity tremendously.

Somehow in 2024 there are still only 5 girls (out of about 30 students) in my daughter's cybersecurity class in her large public high school. Anecdote I know but the CS pipeline seems like it still needs work in terms of diversity if this is what the high school cohorts are.

We clearly have more work to do to increase diversity in STEM, even at the high school levels. (And yes, I realize that there is also national data that I will dig into). But even more reason I'm proud of my 16yo for working on this locally, in her IT academy.

Update: AP computer science (A) or some such name: 4 girls of 25 I am encouraging her to lean into this and turn these anecdotal data into her AP statistics project with some more formal data collection, survey, comparisons across schools or areas, etc. We'll see...

This has been an incredibly meaningful, and as @alisongemmill notes -- heartbreaking -- collaboration.
Our new paper shows how restrictive abortion policies can increase infant mortality. Some— but not all— of the increase we found was likely due to forced continuation of pregnancies with known lethal congenital anomalies. Absolutely heartbreaking study to work on.

Generating community among the people I work with brings me great joy [it is one of the things that makes work meaningful for me] so it was a particular treat to have a few of my post-docs/staff [who are all in NC currently] send me a photo of them gathering with their families.

This was an incredibly well organized and invigorating meeting, with great insights from statisticians, methodologists, applied researchers, and journal editors. Huge thanks to the leaders for moving us towards consensus and tolerating deep discussion of estimands and more!
And that’s a wrap! 3 days of great discussion @ the @TARGETGuideline consensus meeting. bmjopen.bmj.com/content/13/9… We are looking forward to the guideline being piloted and released in the coming year! It’s not too late to express your interest in piloting! redcap.link/target-piloting
