Brown served more than 35 years with Tulsa PD—13 of those in homicide—and became a fan favorite on A&E's The First 48. His colleagues said he never once complained through his illness. Detective Mark Kennedy, who worked cases with Brown for decades, told Oklahoma City's News 9: "It wasn’t poor me, this is happening to me, it was hey, I'm living life. I'm going to live it to the fullest, I'm going to fight this and we'll go from there." Beyond the badge, Brown was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather—his desk covered in photos of the family he adored.
