@MarioBrothBlog-like trivia: The battle stage "Big Donut" in Mario Kart 64 has a developer comment in the source code nicknaming the stage "Ba-Mu". This doesn't suggest an unused name (sadly), just one developer's internal association, among many quirky Japanese code comments.

What is "Ba-Mu" though?? Solution: In Japan, “Ba-Mu” is commonly used to refer to the popular pastry Bamukūhen (バウムクーヘン), a German layered cake baked in rings originally called Baumkuchen. And here is an image of the cake. The resemblance becomes pretty obvious.
